Seattle goes deep to name new NHL team

Wait, what?
You have befuddled the almighty, mortals of Seattle.

Seattle fans have spoken, and the city’s NHL franchise, slated to start play in 2021, will be named the Seattle Kraken.

From The Guardian:

“The Kraken is a name born of the fans. It was suggested and championed by the fans,” Seattle CEO Tod Leiweke said.

The story cites some of the other candidates in their team name search.

  • Sockeyes
  • Metropolitans
  • Evergreens
  • Thunderbirds

Not sure that there’s a better name in there. So, yay, on with the marketing onslaught.

I think it bears noting that with the MLB Mariners, the MSL Sounders, and now the Kraken, Seattle’s sports teams have taken a turn to sea dominance. When the NBA Supersonics existed alongside the NFL Seahawks, air power reigned supreme. How things change.
