Sloooooowwwww Day [NOT 19/1/21]

this day is dragging on and on and on and on

Oh friends, this day is going so slow…

I am so glad Cheeto Mussolini can’t tweet etc today. It’s helping keep my stress levels down. His little tantrum of “fine I’ll have my own party!” cracks me up.

In other news, I did my functional adult thing for the week today. I have what I think is an eczema thing happening and a mole that I am iffy on, so today I found a dermatologist and managed to get an appointment scheduled for next week! Only a week wait! That is mind-boggling for a doctor appointment. I took some selfies of the eczema situation (it’s my eyelids) in case it manages to improve a lot between now and then. Also I haven’t changed eye cream in a few years and haven’t worn eye makeup since November, so it’s not that. I am somewhat prone to stress hives (and I got those too at the moment). Pretty sure based on the timeline of when the recent bout of hives and eye irritation started that it was due to stress spiking due to the coup attempt last week. I’ve had the eyelid irritation before but it also happened in really stressful times.

How is your Tuesday going? Anything interesting happen? Anything special planned for eating or drinking tomorrow to celebrate?

  1. @brightersideoflife, hope you get some relief from the doctor appointment. I’m watching the PBS news hour and just shaking my head. “Stuff”, mostly all stuff, is still bad. But the Biden nominations are heartening, as the nominees are functioning adults!

    • Oh I just need to get past the holy fucking itching phase and then it just is some redness and not significant discomfort. Saturday and Sunday I was like *must not rub/scratch* for pretty much the entire days, today the itching is getting more intermittent which is a huge relief. 🙂

  2. @brightersideoflife New shampoo? I tried a shampoo from Lush that literally peeled the skin off my eyelids. It was a shame too because I loved how my hair looked and felt.

      • I don’t know! I use a lot of Lush products and never had anything like that happen. It burned as soon as it dripped onto my face when I was rinsing it out. And afterwards my eyelids turned red then started peeling like they were sunburned. It was terrible.

    • Oh I am so sorry that happened to you!

Nope, nothing new on the shampoo nor conditioner products, either.

      • Here’s hoping you get diagnosed and healed as quickly as you got the appointment.

  3. I am stunned that you were able to get a dermatologist appointment so quickly.  Mrs. Butcher wanted me to have something checked out some time ago and I couldn’t get an appointment any earlier than a year off.  It was just your basic Old Man Mole, but still, the wait was ridiculous.

I’ve noticed that the short weeks always feel longer to me than the regular weeks.  Which is funny because in my entire working life, the past 8 years are the only period of a “regular” 8-5 job I’ve ever had.

Nothing interesting happening over here, which is just the way I like it.  I’ll probably watch the inauguration during my lunch break.

    • The first derm practice I checked didn’t have availability until mid-August, so yeah I was surprised, too!

Best guess is that with the economy being so bad they have fewer people doing cosmetic procedures so there’s more availability? It’s an office that does things like botox and chemical peels, etc, too.

  4. Oh noooo eczema eyes have to suck. 😳 I hope you get some relief soon.

I haven’t been keeping up with things here so I don’t know if this has been discussed, but I was just reading about how trump’s legal team seem to have talked him out of all the preemptive pardons of himself and his team members and Republican congress people, because it would admit wrongdoing. The argument has been made before, but it sounds like it was done much more forcefully and he listened. Of course you never know with him. The pardons are kind of his chance for a last fuck you to America, so we’ll have to see.

    • …I don’t know as we’ve exactly discussed it…but it’s been mentioned…& to the extent that I was one of the ones that mentioned it my 2¢ was that the version I came across had it that what swayed him was being told that once pardoned it was no longer possible to plead the fifth

…not that the admission of wrongdoing thing wouldn’t go against his instinct to deny even the most obvious of his misdeeds…but without the office to hide behind any more…& a pathological inability to avoid incriminating himself when he speaks about very nearly anything…I’d imagine that might have managed to penetrate beyond the layers of petrified cognitive dissonance that lurk beneath that stuff he’s so keen to point out is his own hair & not the cheap wig it so very much resembles?

    • Does he even have a legal team at this point???

I’m pretty sure my imaginary boyfriend Thor is more real than his legal team.

      • There are absolutely still people morally bankrupt enough to be his legal team. And I think the ones who keep their heads down may be semi competent, unlike Giuliani. Once he starts stiffing lawyers and his sources of money keep drying up, we’ll see if that continues.

        • I can’t help but chuckle whenever I hear that Giuliani is complaining about not getting paid…
          fuckin lol

           😀

    • Yeah, I think the reasoning I heard (read? maybe here?) was that the recipient of a pardon can no longer claim 5th amendment defenses, and that acceptance of a pardon is also considered an admission of guilt.  So supposedly this combo might shield him from federal charges, it would leave him much more vulnerable to civil cases and state charges, and I think there are lots of both of those waiting for him…

  5. Oh, and I had an exciting night last night. I made a giant pot of vegetarian feijoada (Brazilian black beans), which was supposed to last us several nights. It was my first time trying it out and it took me a while, but was tasty. Then after dinner I was going to put it away and managed to smash a glass on the counter, all over everything. Couldn’t tell if any glass got into the leftovers, and I really, really debated, but my husband talked me into throwing it out. There was glass everywhere. He was probably right, but it was a bummer.

And in other news, my cat’s surgery is scheduled for Monday. Had to take her in for preliminary blood work today. We’ve been trying to explain to Lil so he’s not shocked when she comes home with one eye.

    • Fingers crossed for a successful surgery, and a quick recovery for kitty.

      • Thanks guys. ❤️❤️ Weirdly I’m not stressing over this nearly as much as I did for her getting teeth pulled a year ago. I think the political situation has gotten bad enough that my stress meters have just kinda maxed out and I’ve adapted… I’ll probably still have a sleepless night ahead of her surgery though. You’ll see me on here at like 2am haha.

      • I was so sad! It was pretty good. I’ve never had the real deal, and meat seems to be an integral part of the dish, so I really can’t say how close it was, but the recipe developer and multiple commenters were saying it was a great version. The secret ingredient was actually vegemite! I’ve been curious about vegemite for a long time and my wegmans has a huge imported section, so I got some. I’ve tried some on toast too and I actually really like it, which is funny because everyone says it’s an acquired taste.

  6. I have a bottle of champagne for tomorrow after work, just in case things don’t go to shit.

    • I have a bottle in the fridge and a spare bottle of prosecco. I am supposed to be in an all day meeting but if it gets out early, my ass is getting DRUNK early.

    • Good idea. I have a fully stocked kitchen, but I might just celebrate with takeout from a fine dining place. Or middle-brow cuisine is fine, too.

  7. im trying to decide if developing symptoms is worth it today
hmmmm…. do i prefer sitting through a meeting where management gets to say many words and show graphs and statistics (at least one of wich will be animated to prove they did something these last couple of months)
or getting my brain poked by a bigly q-tip and at least a day off whilst i wait for the results
    tough call…

    • @farscythe, I’ve had 2 of the nose stabby stabby covid tests and both were far better than a day of management meetings
