So bad it’s good [NOT 14/4/24]

You're not wrong.

Hi, friends!

I hope your weekend has gone well! Do you have any tv or movies that are objectively bad but somehow you enjpy them too?

Yesterday I watched Jurassic World: Dominion and it’s definitely a bad movie. The concept doesn’t even make sense. There’s no way the characters could survive basically anything they do. You could make a short edit of only the scenes that have the OG three (Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill) and it would have been a better film. Potentially with fewer plot inconsistencies even if you didn’t try to make any more sense out of it.

  1. Any British SF by Gerry Anderson

    OG Battlestar Galactica

The Avengers TV Series (Steed Peel etc nothing to do with Marvel)

    Battle of the Planets

    Any Harryhousen Movie

Godzilla Vs King Kong (Japanese version)

  2. When you watch a lot of silent comedy shorts like Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd, you realize despite the slapstick there’s a lot of clever stuff going on.

When you watch The Three Stooges, there’s nothing close. But they’re still just as funny.

  3. I have an example of the opposite.  Barbie.  A movie that was objectively good but I did not enjoy.  I could only take it in ten minute bites, but I managed to stick it out to the end (it took me a few weeks).

This might be an unpopular opinion, but there it is.

    • Not every movie is enjoyed by everyone, even blockbuster movies.

There’s definitely been movies where I’m like yeah I guess it’s good but nah I’m good to never watch it again nor recommend it to anyone. Dunkirk, for example.
