“No incoherent ranting. I promise.”
Yeah…I have said that before…pretty much every time I’ve said I’d cover the DOT at the last minute. A very incoherent rant is brewing in my head but I am keeping my promise this time because…
I’m speechless…
I’m speechless…
I’m speechless…
I’m speechless…
I’m speechless…
(a thread)
I’m speechless…
I’m speechless…
I don’t know the US appellate court system well enough to comment on this so I am speechless…
Several people grew on me from the very beginning of Gawker to the brutal end. From the trolling by the contrarian known as “Tomato” to the OG that was Ray on Deadspin to the comment section of Splinter to the day Michael Harriot left The Root all the way to DS. One of those people I grew to admire over the years is none other than @manchucandidate.
I’m speechless…
Here is the entire @January6thCmte Hearing Room erupting into laughter when the footage of Josh Hawley running out of the Capitol is shown. (via @dprzygoda).

I hope @HawleyMO hears this sound in his head for the rest of his life. pic.twitter.com/SqJemuncHd
…but @manchucandidate was not:
A better edited version of “I Ran”
I raised a fist along the avenue
I never thought I’d see a deranged mob like you
See a deranged methed out mob like you
With spears, clubs, zip ties and meth eyes
The kind of eyes that I could control though
I thought I could control thoughYet I ran, I ran so fast that way
I just ran, I ran when the fuckers came my way
I flat out sped away.My presidential run is now dead
People are pointing and laughing at me
Totally freaked out was me
The mob is moving nearer still
The lynch mob comes in view
The morons comes in viewYet I ran, I ran so fast that way
I just ran, I ran when the fuckers came my way
I flat out sped away.
Thank you all for reading this lack of ranting…
…even though I feel that I should…
…because – at least for those of you who caught that subtle reference up there – I am not speechless. I’m…
…so don’t don’t be speechless BTL…it is an open thread, after all…and be sure to stay tuned for the Brain Drain!
tbh…it being the weekend rather than getting worked up about everything going to shit….ive decided to follow louis primas advice
Very restrained. Proud of you.
*sigh* I miss the fantasy of Canada.
@myopicprophet ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. @Hannibal, sigh, me too.
I had never heard of this Poilievre character since we get no news from north of the border. The average East German consumed more West German media than Americans do Canadian, and the East Germans had all kinds of blockading and blacking out technology. Anyway, I was not surprised that he came thundering out of the west, from Calgary.
Ah Alberta! Canada’s Texas. Oil, cowboy attire, the occasional Confederate flag, right-wing nutters, birthplace of Rafael “Ted” Cruz, whose father was an illegal immigrant from Cuba and an itinerant apocalyptic Evangelical “minister”/one-man carny operation. One wonders why they don’t have their own secession movement, maybe they do, like Québec.
Look up “wexit”
Of course.
Nice job, @myopicprophet.
Dammit! Now I need to cross Canada off my “escape to” list! Thanks Myo!
Next level trolling?

So in a great example of why having friends in other places is good, I know more about Canada from the Canadians here than anything I see or read in the news.
I am consistently disappointed that your nutjobs also decided to be white supremacist nutjobs.
Side note — I can always get gifs from giphy to load here but never ones from tenor. Tenor just drops the link in the comment instead of the gif. Is that something other people have no issue with and therefore it’s some whackadoo issue from my ancient laptop? I’m not on the most current version of Chrome, but I updated last week or not too long ago so it’s not like I’m on some browser that hasn’t been updated in over a year.
Just use giphy. It works with WordPress.
That makes sense, thanks! For a long time I thought it was like how some youtube videos load and some just show links and I didn’t connect the dots.
I’m….not the sharpest.
That is actually pretty close to the same reason. So don’t sell yourself short!
Federally it’s not over yet. A lot of us are still fighting. We just abdolutely CANNOT split the vote between the Liberal Party & the NDP in 2025 to allow the Conservative fascists to win.
Ontario is FUCKED. It’s over.
Re: Hyundai plant in Alabama
Couple of context details to remind folks – minimum wage in Alabama is $7.25 an hour. The state heavily targets migrant workers to exploit for low wage jobs. Gas in Montgomery, AL is around $4.44/gallon today – basically 25-35 cents a gallon higher than surrounding states. Sales tax rates when I lived in Alabama over a decade ago were 10-11%, across the board. Like in Missouri, food is taxed at 1.25% compared to like clothing or whatever. Something like 30 states don’t tax groceries at all. Basically, Alabama operates on the exploitation of labor and fucking over the working class and folks in poverty, even more openly than many other states in the US. And nickels and dimes folks on taxes, etc, hurting their income levels even more.
So yes, shame on the father for sending his daughter and sons to a Hyundai plant when they’re 12, 14, and 15 years old. “Tzi, the father, also once worked at SMART and now does odd jobs in the construction and forestry industries. He told Reuters he regrets that his children had gone to work. The family needed any income it could get at the time, he added, but is now trying to move on.” aka he has irregular labor and doesn’t get paid shit.
Don’t worry though! Great for those car companies to put in those highly profitable car plants in where there’s no UAW unions to oversee labor rules, etc.
To add more info on Alabama–they’re also one of the draconian states, when it comes to eligibility for things like SNAP & other social-services benefits.
You aren’t eligible if you’re not a citizen or a “permanent resident alien**”
https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:e7228bf3-3429-33a6-b897-c306cb844d75
They require adults to be working a minimum of 30 hours a week, without voluntarily leaving a job, to be eligible for benes…. annnnnd since $7.25/ health at 30 hours a week is just $870/month *before* taxes are taken out, y’all can see how poor a family of 4-5+ people is likely to be, and why it was “all hands on deck” with the kids (“immigrant children,” mind you, according to that Reuters link Shaq shared!), all also working to keep the family afloat.😕
YES, the kids shouldn’t have been working!!!
BUT, in situations like this, it’s typically out of desperation & need, not a “let’s hire out our kids & make THEM support us!” laziness mentality by the parents…
And the FAMILY are the ones who are going to suffer from this, the asshats who created the policies to keep folks like them destitute & desperate absolutely won’t face consequences–neither will the companies who used & abused their labor… except *maybe* that smaller contractor–who may have to shutter this iteration of their business… but they’ll likely be able to simply declare bankruptcy on this tax number, and start up a *new* LLC with the same folks in charge, easily enough.🙃
(**of COURSE they use the term “alien”… wouldn’t want the good residents of Alabama thinking immigrants are people, and therefore of needing basic human supports like food, shelter, clothing. & potable water, now would we?🙃)
Liz Cheney now has Josh Hawley’s balls in a jar. I must say, it’s fun watching her teach these faux-Republicans why it’s a bad idea to fuck with the actual daughter of Satan.
It’s frustratingly amusing, that the R’s forget Liz sold out her own goddamned sister to get that senate seat–of COURSE she’ll be willing to buck all THEIR wrath to keep her power & position herself even *better* with the American Public…
Yes, she’s doing the right thing! But she shouldn’t be trusted to do so long-term, should *a different track* become more politically expedient to her ambitions!🤨
Both Adam and Liz voted against voting rights. Both of them are on that stage for the attention but anyone who believes they aren’t on the same side, in the long term fight, as the insurrectionists are gullible.
Absolutely. The enemy of my enemy is most emphatically not my friend. It’s just a preoccupied enemy.
That said, I’m perfectly okay with watching them tear each other apart.
Another unbelievably bad reporting and editing job by the NY Times —
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/22/nyregion/lee-zeldin-suspect-bail.html
A guy who threatened a GOP rep running for governor of NY was released without bail, and the Times tuns a headline “G.O.P. Assails N.Y. Bail Laws After Suspect in Zeldin Attack Is Released” and its lede says the rep has “inflamed a fierce debate over the state’s public safety laws.”
Oh, sounds like it’s the Dems who screwed up.
Only 23 paragraphs later in the article do we find out the DA deliberately chose to charge the guy with a minor offense that doesn’t even call for bail — AND THE DA IS THE GOP REP’S CAMAPAIGN CHAIR!
What’s obvious is that the Times is offering a direct fast track to the GOP to push its messaging and not even bothering to think at all.
They had a golden opportunity to probe a serious question — did the GOP campaign chair make this choice to set up a political attack? But that would have meant crossing the GOP sources who are the bread and butter of the Times. So instead they go with the GOP-friendly cliche. Because of course they do.
Thank you!
Thanks myo for highlighting our wingnuts.
I have some experience as I grew up in the white bread rural area of Ontario on the Bruce Peninsula. The era I grew up there I liken it to a bit to Huntsville Alabama aka Rocket City, a mix of highly educated Ontario Hydro folks and families of rural folks who lived there for generations (the Bruce Nuclear Power Development is about 20km away and where my dad worked for most of his Hydro career.)
From what I understand (2nd hand) the area is basically wingnut heaven now full of angry, scared, resentful, methed out (the region I grew up in is now the meth capital of Ontario) and in a lot of cases racist white folks especially those that are part of the white flight from the cities.
We have a similar divide between rural and urban. Most of the Conservative MPs represent rural areas. Unlike your nation, the rurals don’t have the advantage (our founding fathers were smart enough to learn the lessons from your mistakes) nor do they have the power in the Senate which would have happened if Preston Manning got his way with his Equal/Elected/Effective (for wingnuts) Senate plans in which the progress of the nation would be slowed by a bunch of hicks from the sticks.
Alberta resents anyone who has economic power and cultural power (Ontario and Quebec) and because they have oil think that they ALONE should be the power center of the nation. My western Con friend seems to keep talking about the “West” when it is only about “Alberta.” He keeps mocking me as a tool of the Libs and I keep telling him to stop being Alberta’s Bitch. I understand a bit of the history behind Western Alienation and we in Central Canada can be jackasses. If they actually had good ideas (like universal healthcare which only came into existence in the mid 60s!) everyone in Canada would be happy to use them. However, most of their ideas/power grabs though revolve around Alberta’s quest to be the center of mass in Canada.
The irony being that if the West actually favored immigration then they’d have more power, but they don’t (especially non white immigration) so they fucked themselves.
As myo points out, our media is just as complicit as yours. Actually worse as there is no MSNBC. Even the CBC is littered with Con loving shitheads.
Quebec made a lot of the difference here. It forced enough people in English Canada to remove their heads from their collective asses and realize that we don’t HAVE A MONOCULTURE (ahem Natives) and that white Canada isn’t the ONLY Canada.
The same wingnuts who bitch about multiculturalism tend to be the same assholes who hate non-whites/argue about who’s a “REAL” Canadian. I’m looking at you senile Don Cherry hockey loudmouth among others.
@manchucandidate
…don’t even get me started. I promised not to rant.
You pulled that together quickly! I knew you would be amazing. <3
