Sports Talk

A place for people to talk sports (if this works out)

As a Tigers and Red Wings fan it has been a long year and a long one to come. I have to remind myself to be patient. I could have been a Leafs fan and never witnessed success. I am eternally hopeful Yzerman can turn the team around like he did with The Lightning. As far as the Tigers go at least Cabrera will get his 3,000th hit.

A friend at work is a huge Mets fan and can’t contain himself with the good start to the season. “Just wait till deGrom gets back” has been on a constant loop. We will let him enjoy this until they remember they are The Mets. That poor bastard is also a Jets fan.

I have never been much of a basketball fan. I know enough general knowledge to hold a conversation but that is about it. My regional team would be The Sixers. They are off to a good start by being up 3-0. It seems some people are happy that The Nets are down 0-2 because of Kyrie Irving and his freedom fight against the Covid vaccine. Also it is nice not hearing about The Lakers except for Jerry West being unhappy about how he was portrayed in “Winning Time“.

If you want to drop some knowledge on us or just yell into the ether put it in the comments.

@myopicprophet eventual heartbreak.

@farscythe I know you have been enjoying the nice weather but have you watched any F1 races?

As a Raps fan, I only have 3 year old faded memories of this shot to keep me warm during the NBA playoffs.  Also didn’t expect the Raps to be this decent this year.

To be fair it looks like the Clippers signing KL was good for the Raptors.

    • Manchu, as someone else whose local basketball team started playing in the 90’s, I SO feel you, both on the years-ago good team, and the minor surprise of the local team still somehow being in contention!😉🤣

Of course, as a team-long Wolves fan, and lifelong Minnesotan, I know that** we will somehow manage to yet again(!) snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, in new, exciting (🙃😱☠), and never-before-seen ways!

Because, as a state, what our athletic teams seem to be best at, is building fans’ hopes, only to utterly crush those hopes to dust, over, and over, and over again–for generations now!

(**because of the apparent curse over all MN Sprotz teams *not* named the Twins or Lynx!)

  2. Mets, Jets oh my.

Well, the Jays are looking good-ish (too early to tell.)  And they got robbed last year because of CoVID (can’t blame the Feds/Trudeau for putting health before beseboll although we do have a lot of stupid bonehead fans here who like to blame them for everything… /glares at Trucker fuckers/)

The Leafs are… heartbreak hotel personified.  They made me the bandwagon fan I am today.

    • I hate interleague play.

Instead of a bunch of games against traditional rivals, MLB scheduled tons of games against teams that have no connection, and they’re shrinking divisional games even more in a couple of years. So we keep getting fewer and fewer Yankees-Red Sox or Dodgers-Giants series and end up with more and more Yankees-Marlins and Dodgers-Tampa Bay games. The novelty has worn off and fans trade strong rivalries for weak rotations of games.

  3. Ooh, I like the sports talk.  My Bulls looked pretty good the other night against Milwaukee.  Actually, they looked pretty good in game 1 as well, but lost in an unlikely buzzer beater.  So, they split with the Bucks in Milwaukee and now go home to the United Center for game 3 against the NBA champs.

The Bulls and White Sox are my only home team hopes at this point.  The Cubs have been dead to me since I was just a boy.

    • The Bulls did look good & with the Bucks losing their 2nd best player for awhile they could beat the champs.  I can’t cheer for the Sixers, Grayson Allen is the dirtiest player in the league and even the worst of all the Duke shitheads before him!  When he broke the Carushow’s wrist he should have been suspended for a long time!  I’m cheering for the Bulls & the Pelicans since that is where all the good Lakers ended up after the great GM Lebron decided he would rather have a geriatric team than a winning team.  Also, Winning Time is a fantastic show that may not be completely factual but it is definitely based on true events and pretty believable.  Many of my friends are hockey fans but I can’t get into it.  I would go to watch Marshawn drive the Zamboni now that he is a part owner of the Kraken but that is about it.

  4. Also a Red Wings fan, and … I feel better this year than I have in a while? This year wasn’t good and they’ve really stunk down the stretch, but the young pieces have played better already than I was expecting. Get us a goalie and tighten up the D and we might not be terrible next year.

  5. I hope this counts.

I read several slavering articles about football legend David Beckham’s son Brooklyn’s wedding to Nicola Peltz, daughter of Nelson, the fabulously wealthy non-executive chairman of Wendy’s, among other things. The wedding, held at stately Peltz Manor in Palm Beach, cost $4 million (and they didn’t even have to rent the venue. Or maybe they did for tax avoidance reasons.) It went on for a weekend.

Among the attendees from the World of Sports were the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus; Natalia Bryant, daughter of the late Kobe; and Greatest American Hero Tom Brady. Hazza and Megs were invited but blew it off. Three Spice Girls were there, including Posh, who is Brooklyn’s Mom. Gordon Ramsay came but did not cater. Rashida Jones was there, along with Kiernan Shipka, who is my favorite actress because not only was she daughter Sally in “Mad Men” but also Bette Davis’s daughter B.D. in the greatest TV miniseries ever, “Feud.” Snoop Dawg DJ’d and Bruno Mars sang.

    Magical.

  6. i watch every f1 race…. have done for about 10 years now

its my sprot of choice (tho i do also follow motogp)

qualifying today was a mess lol

(f1 wont allow embeds but meh)

  7. Y’all mention the Sixers, and then ya don’t share the best damn basketball song, ever?!?!?

And you call yourselves Sprotz fans!😉💖

As for me, I’ll just be sitting over here, waiting for the inevitable crashing of the Timberwolves’ hopes & dreams…

    Just like always

But hey, pretty soon it’ll be time to watch the classic football arc, where the Vikes show a “promising” preseason, go into the start of the season 3-4 games strong, crash after the Bye week, only to wrangle their way into the Wildcard game “by the skin of their teeth,**” manage to win that Wildcard Game *and* the first playoff game…

Only to crash & burn in *SOME* new, never-before-seen, and completely unheard of way, dashing the hopes of all Vikes fans, yet again….

    In perpetuity...

Because ^^THAT^^ is actually the Vikings longest and most perfected skill…

    🙃

    **or some such cliché!
