Hi, friends!
How is your weekend going? I highly recommend the Mean Girls musical, saw it last night and fucking hilarious. So well done! The song style is just “generic musical songs” but they’re catchy and the lyrics are great. The staging was also super creative, like school cafeteria tables on castors so they could be sitting and moving around the stage during songs.
Today is sunny and up in the high 50s/low 60s, so I did a bunch of yard work. Which mentally was great because I love my garden, wow my body was like oh honey know what is you doing. But it’s too early for the bugs (mostly, I still had a few buzzing) and the nothing is up yet so much easier to stomp around my rainscaped area with the hedge shears sawing away on things and not worrying about where I stepped.
It was 55 here today. It was nice to have my afternoon coffee on the patio.
Nice! We’re staying in low 60s today and tomorrow. Then Wednesday it’s gonna start like low 60s and drop down to 20 degrees that noight and back to the 20s for a few days.
We have had the full spectrum of weather today from warm sun to driving rain to passing hail storms & back to sun. Of course we chose to landscape & wash windows in the middle of this.
Well at least the windows are extra clean now?
There are a few super early flowers blooming here and there, like Snow Drops and Witch Hazel. We also had brief flurries yesterday, so I’m not sure anything is out pollinating them.
Nice! I have a witch hazel shrub in the backyard.
Ozark witch hazel (Hamamelis vernalis) is native to Missouri and blooms sometime in the Jan-April range. Common witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana), blooms in the fall.
Despite living in a state with the Ozarks, I have the witch hazel species named after Virginia. 🙂 I spent all spring waiting for that damn shrub to bloom the first year I lived here because I knew from going to Missouri Botanical Gardens that witch hazel is a super early bloomer. Nope. Nope nope. None at all. Then October rolls around and that little jerk is blooming.
Do animals like deer and groundhogs like to eat witch hazel? If not, that might be perfect for us here in SW Virginia.
I just looked it up and it appears to be not deerproof but deer disliked.
We only get occasional visitors so they don’t seem to go after it, but I wouldn’t count on them surviving big herds.
We have Crocuses pushing out now. They always seem to pop up first.
And the weekend just took a sour turn as our new foster dog had the runs. Just cleaned it up and I’ve got a candle burning to try to cover up the smell….
Sounds more than sour! Poor little guy. My dog used to eat the neighbors fish fertilizer & get the shits. Luckily I could hear his stomach making noise & he would bark at me to let me know it was urgent!
way shits going over here we’re going to run out of alfabet for the storms by spring…..
also i should consider swapping one of my bikes for a canoe….or maybe a skiff…
….if i’d known last week there’d be another one i would have taken today off too…
eurgh….stupid weather
on the upside….if i get to work and the roofs blown off….it wont cost me any pto…i think
on the downside…if it hasnt….its probably flooded again…and i get to spend my morning mopping…
i hate mopping
calling in sick is tempting…. but then i’d feel guilty…as im not even a little bit unfit (surprising for a monday)
*sigh*
oh woes me
