  1. Can I bore you all with a little “Hawaii 5-0”? I won’t do full recaps but I never realized, or had forgotten, that “5-0” was from the golden era of TV guest stars. The MI6 one is a little convoluted. Basically British double and triple agents are selling military secrets to the ChiComms. In 2024 it’s almost unimaginable that the Brits would have anything worth buying and that the Chinese wouldn’t just steal it themselves. There’s a thrilling denouement where McGarrett and my boyfriend Danno board a small speedboat that’s conveniently nearby and, with Danno at the wheel and McGarrett standing up, they pursue a perp around some harbor. But the best part is that the perp is originally presumed dead, so the wife is given the third degree, and she is none other than Juliet Mills! Yes. The nanny from “Nanny and the Professor.”

The episode before that one found us on the military base at Pearl. A very sensitive document has gone missing. The military wants to take matters into its own hands but McGarrett bigfoots his way in. Suspicion falls on a (presumably civilian) female employee. Donna Dixon! But it turns out that it was really David Birney (again) who has been “narco-hypnotized.”

The one I saw tonight starred Susan Dey (fresh off her role as Laurie Partridge from “The Partridge Family”) who lives in Las Vegas and is some kind of courier for her boyfriend who lives in Oahu. I’ve always had a crush on Susan Dey. When she showed up on “LA Law” and was dating Mickey (Harry Hamlin in his prime) I could not control my excitement. Because I also saw the movie “Making Love” (Harry Hamlin stars in that) in a movie theater with my boyfriend and some friends and when it was over that’s when we decided to come out to them. And they looked at us like, “We…kind of knew this?”

That concludes our “Hawaii 5-0” roundup.

    • It’s wild to hear all of the 5-0 stories that go beyond local law and order.

I don’t think Columbo ever did much of that. I seem to remember Patrick McGoohan playing an IRA gun runner once, but that was about it for international intrigue.

  2. winter end?

    its january?

    it hasnt started yet?

we’ve had the early cold snap….winter proper….if it happens doesnt start till halfway next month…… might hold off till april….

never made sense to me……how come the shortest days arent the coldest?

me thinks the suns lied on its resume and oversold its warming abillities

    • how come the shortest days arent the coldest?

Inertia, basically. You’re jamming on the gas, realize you’re headed over the cliff, start tapping the brakes, realize you haven’t let up on the gas, let up on the gas, start pushing the brakes harder until you can finally go into reverse or turn around.

You’ll keep going toward the cliff for a while even after the course correction until you get yourself together.

      • can you point me towards the brake lines?

tbh….the over correction that is summer over here is unpleasant….and i have a powerful need to build an igloo
