Strange But True: Ageless Aces

There is an old saying in sports, “Records are made to be broken.” Golf is certainly no exception.

At one time Tommy Moore of Hagerstown, Maryland, was the youngest golfer ever to score a hole-in-one. Tommy was six years old when he got his ace in 1968 on the 145-yard fourth hole at Woodbrier Golf Course in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Since then his record was broken by Coby Orr of Littleton, Colorado, in 1975. When he got his ace on the 103-yard fifth hole at Riverside Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas, Coby was five years old.

The oldest gentleman ever to score holes-in-one were George Miller and Clark Youngman. Both were 93 years old. Miller got his ace on the 116-yard eleventh hole at the Anaheim Golf Course in California in 1970. Youngman scored his in 1971 at the Tam O’Shanter Club in Toronto.

Art Wall, Jr., holds the distinction of scoring the most holes-in-one. During the course of his career this marvelous professional golfer scored a total of 41 aces!

  1. Since the book was published, both the youngest and oldest records have been broken at least a few times.  The current record holder for youngest person to score an ace is Christian Carpenter age 4 years 195 days at the Mountain View Golf Club, Hickory, North Carolina, on December 18, 1999.  The oldest is Gus Andreone of Sarasota, FL, age 103, at the Palm Aire Country Club, Sarasota, FL, on December 20, 2014.
