When boys and girls kneel down to shoot marbles, they may not know that marbles is one of mankind’s oldest sports. The game is thousands of years old. Marbles have been found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs and in the graves of American Indians.
The first marbles were made of stone, polished wood, and even the knucklebones of sheep. In the years that followed, marbles were made of glass, agate, marble, brass, and steel.

And now we’re here:
Believe it or not, I never learned how to play marbles as a kid. Mrs. Butcher still has her marbles (so to speak) and taught me how to play in my late 20’s.
More humane than dog or horse racing!
you’ll find these mysterious holy stones on schoolyards all over the netherlands
marbles are still going strong here….or…well…tbh im not sure they are anymore…every 5 year old has a smartphone nowadays…but the marble holes are still everywhere
I’m not surprised. Jelle’s Marble Runs are from The Netherlands.
