Strange But True: Grand Slam

Over the years there have been many great golfers: Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and others. But none of them ever matched the achievement of Bobby Jones in 1930. That was the year Jones won the Grand Slam of Golf.

First he won the British Amateur title at St. Andrews, Scotland. After that came victory in the British Open. It was followed by a win in the U.S. Open and, finally, the U.S. Amateur.

Jones retired from competition at the age of 28. He never turned professional.

  1. Before you ask, no, Tiger Woods has not done what Bobby Jones did.  Tiger held all the major titles, but not over the same year.  People call it the “Tiger Slam” because it seems having all the other accolades wasn’t enough, but he has not actually compiled a Grand Slam.
