Like all athletes, Bill Mosienko of the Chicago Black Hawks dreamed of getting his name in the record book. On March 23, 1952, he did it–in less time than it will take you to read this story.
The Black Hawks were playing the New York Rangers. During the action, Black Hawk Gus Bodnar got the puck and passed it to Mosienko. He flashed in on the net and scored.
At the following face-off, Bodnar gained possession again. He passed to Mosienko, who broke away, skated in, shot and scored.
Once more Bodnar won the face-off at center ice. This time he passed to left-winger George Gee, as Mosienko skated in on the right. Gee flicked the rubber to him, Mosienko shot–and scored.
Bill Mosienko had scored three goals in exactly 21 seconds! It was the fastest hat trick on record.
