On February 24, 1949, Roy Conacher of the Chicago Black Hawks scored against goalie Bill Durnan of the Montreal Canadiens. There were still 43 minutes and 45 seconds left to play in the hockey game. Durnan allowed no further scoring.
Two days later Durnan had a shutout against the Detroit Red Wings. In the next game Durnan blanked the Toronto Maple Leafs. After that he shut out the Boston Bruins. In the following game he shut out Boston again.
Finally the Canadiens played the Black Hawks again. At the six-minute mark Gaye Stewart finally got the puck past Durnan and scored.
Oddly, it was after a goal by a Black Hawk player that the shutout streak began, and a goal by another Black Hawk that it ended. In between, Durnan logged 309 minutes and 21 seconds of scoreless play–more than five hours of shutout hockey!

Love the artwork on this one.
Durnan’s record held for 55 years. In 2004, Brian Boucher of the Phoenix Coyotes had five straight shutouts over the course of 332 hours and 1 minute.
