Sunday, Funday? [DOT 15/11/20]

It’s supposedly a day of rest around these parts. Maybe fix yourself a drink from Friday’s Happy Hour and settle in for some entertainment.

Either way, I’ll go light on the links.

No shit Sherlock.

    • Actually, I’m surprised by the 29% thing. I know the Republicans have long targeted the less-educated and lower classes, encouraging them to vote against their own interests and for tax cuts for billionaires, but I really didn’t realize the difference was that huge.

And then they voted for four more years, even after seeing the debacle of a Trump presidency, that delivered literally nothing to them. It really boggles my mind.

    • Pretty powerful statistic considering how RED the map looks at the county level. To think, ALL THAT only generates 29% of US economic output? No wonder they’re so fucking anxious.

  1. welp…the gubment here banned fireworks for new years eve…in order to ease the workload on the hospitals
    neato!
this new years eve is going to be amazing when its only the much heavier illegal fireworks and calcium carbide cannons out there

    • I live in a place where fireworks are illegal all the time (except for professionally organized shows for events/holidays). It doesn’t stop anyone. It was NONSTOP in the spring and summer after lockdown 1.0 and the protesting. But I heard some just last week 😖

      • We have tribal stands near us that sell them but you are only supposed to light them on tribal lands.  Like anyone enforces that!  Every area has different rules for what is allowed but basically it is a shitshow.

      • they’re only legal for one day a year here
but its really not the legal fireworks that cause all the injuries (cause some tho)
and well the illegal ones arent exactly going to be bothered by a ban….if anything theres going to be more of them as the legal option went away
im thinking this ban will backfire spectacularly

        • Yeah I was wondering how many fireworks-related incidents end up in the hospital where you live?

Like yeah sometimes someone gets super drunk and gets hurt with fireworks, but it’s not like a common annual occurrence that emergency rooms are flooded with folks on New Year’s because of it.

          • last year it was 1300 ish about 400 of those needing the ER
a busy night for the hospitals in a normal year…on top of corona its a problem
(i know the numbers dont seem too high…but bare in mind this whole country has a couple million inhabitants less than new york city…and hospital capacity to match)

            • Ahh I didn’t realize it was the entire country that banned them this year. I was thinking it was just a city doing it. Sorry, where I live, St. Louis City and County technically don’t allow fireworks but the adjacent counties do, so I was thinking it was like just your municipality and like what were they expecting… 10 or 12 accidents?

              Signed,

national-level decisions planned on the idea of public health/covid resource management are strange to Americans due to the incompetency we have here

  2. As for myself, I got up at 4 AM and just finished binge-watching the entirety of Season 4 of “The Crown.” It was released on Netflix today. It does not disappoint. Ten episodes at almost an hour per. Time well-spent.

      • Amazing. All the actors are. I’m still processing. They might not look exactly like who they’re portraying but they all do uncanny impersonations of what we imagine the voices, accents, mannerisms would be. And of all of them I think GA came closest to really even looking like and becoming MT.
