Hi, friends!
Did you have a good weekend? Ready to start the week?
I have done a ton of food prepping and cooking today so that it’s all done for the work week. It was one of those things of I could space it out throughout a few days, but if I did it all now it would take fewer dishes.
Anyways, now my house smells like delicious chili. Also thanks to doing a few batches of roasting them, I finally am not overwhelmed with tomatoes. Which is good, because it looks like in about 3 weeks I’m going to get a bunch more!
Yesterday was a long day, we moved my eldest into a new apartment which meant moving a very heavy sleeper sofa down a flight of stairs in one place and up several flights of stairs in another. She had way too much stuff for her small apartment and it was very warm doing it. 10 hours of moving and unpacking later we made the hour drive home. Today was much nicer, went to an art fair, got the wife to buy her own birthday present (a glass flower she wants to turn into a fountain), went out for dumplings at the Asian market food court, did some grocery shopping there & at another place including supplies for other daughter. We drive her back to school this week and fly back just in time to drive to Portland for a wedding next weekend. It will be around 100 degrees when we move the younger one in! At least she doesn’t have much heavy stuff.
Man, never go against a Sicilian, never get involved in a land war in Asia, and never move a sleeper sofa up or down stairs.
I tried to get her not to move & after this move I told her she should live there until she can afford professional movers.
I’m impressed that you helped, you’re a good dad. After my first year of college, my parents were told me I was on my own for moving shit.
My wife is a helicopter mom & it has been tough on her giving up control. I just go along. When they decided to go shopping for more stuff, I had them drop me off at a favorite brewery near by. I was done.
I get the Sunday Night Stress Syndrome in anticipation of the work week.
I find it directly related to what meetings I have on the Monday. If it’s the normal status etc stuff, I’m much less worried than when I have important or stressful meetings on a Monday.
My foyer looks like a warehouse as my friend bought a bunch of stuff for his son that was sent to my house in preparation for his son’s 1st year of university because I’m the closest friend he’s got on the way to Queen’s. I remember when his son was born… because I had to cancel my trip to visit as he popped out three days before I was supposed to arrive.
My friend asked me if he could and I said fine because I generally don’t mind if folks ask.
My Monday is tonight… ah night shift. Which is kind of welcome more so than fucking day shift which is full of idiots and morons…, er management. Of course the drive is going to be in the middle of the downpour/rain we didn’t get all summer. I’m just glad I upgraded my drainage or I’d be fucked.
2nd last week of August… shit.
I got my eyes checked yesterday and I’m slightly less nearsighted and slightly more farsighted. So it goes.
I got scheduled for a third annual followup exam for glaucoma. A few years ago the doc noticed something funny about my optic nerve which prompted a serious exam. The good news is the first two years I had the detailed exam, nothing was actually amiss, and supposedly if this year’s follows suit that’s a strong indication it’s just some kind of wrinkle that isn’t an issue. So I’ll know in few weeks if there’s anything going on, or if it’s just one of those things that turns up when you’re checking everything out.
I had to do the same thing for three years too because Glaucoma runs in my family (mom and sister have it.)
Yeah, I got at least a soft commitment from another interpreter to cover four hours for me on Wednesday so that I can go interpret in court, but now I’ll have to work a bit more just about every other day this week to make up for it.
I went apple, peach, and blackberry picking today.
So far I’ve made two apple pies, prepared the berries for freezing (for smoothies) and am waiting on the peaches to be a little bit more ripe before deciding what to do with them.
It was a fun but busy day!
I’m a fan of any stone fruit stewed with a little cinnamon and brown sugar. Great on oatmeal, yogurt, probably in baked goods if I ever kept it around long enough for that…
Anyone watch House of the Dragon yet?
I started but had to turn it off — too gruesome for me.
It was very gruesome. I didn’t hate it – didn’t really love it either. And, there was no preview for next week which was odd.
