  10. Jeff Zucker needs to follow Cuomo out the door. There’s spin obviously coming from him that he was outraged by supposedly new information in just the past couple of days that sparked the firing.

    If it was new to Zucker, it’s only because he was making sure it never got through to him.

  11. It looks like even more of Spanfeller’s infection is spreading. NuGawker reported a couple of weeks ago that most of Jezebel’s writers have quit, and now they report that AVClub’s shrunken staff has been told they were “invited” to move to the LA office. Of course, if they didn’t accept they would be canned. And Spanfeller was only offering $5K for the move. And no guarantees how long their jobs would be safe after the move.

    Michael Harriot and Stephen Crockett quit The Root last month. It’s pretty obvious Herb’s hoping to chase bots and random search engine hits to sell whatever ads he can to unscrupulous online ad consolidators. I wonder if he’ll ever get wrapped up in a traffic manipulation mess.

     

     

    • He would have been a good addition to the Trump administration, be in charge of something only to destroy it.

      Jezebel has sucked for a while, but has taken a noticeable nosedive in the past few weeks. The Root is a true gem, I’ve been reading it since it was over on Slate. Michael Harriot is a great writer.

      • …it might qualify me for tinfoil headgear but I honestly can’t understand what went on with the kinja sites through any other lens than looking at it as a concerted long-term effort to remove everything about those sites that made them popular (or even really readable) while driving their core readership (which I assume would have been their commenters originally) away

        …given that it seems like the diametric opposite of a strategy to build on their assets/strengths it seems like a deliberate effort to lose money on a considerable investment to the point that it seems like it ought to qualify as some sort of contribution-in-kind to…can anyone think of a political entity peter thiel would be aligned with?

        • Even before i got to the end of your post i wondered “anyone know if Spanfeller and Thiel are friends?” They’re very obviously running G/O into the ground. If NuGawker had a comments section I’d migrate over there. Not only have the G/O sites become hard to navigate as you said, but the writing quality is shit, and that’s if you haven’t been mysteriously shadowbanned.
