…see…if you’ll pardon the pun & the dad joke level reference…whatever your quantum of solace…in the end…most matters that matter are a matter of trust

I think about this a lot. How does the military come back from this kind of norm erosion? Increasingly you see officers empowered to shout partisan screeds from the heart of the digital town square. Tomorrow always comes, but how do we repair the professional norm and win back trust?

Brian Kerg (@briankerg.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T21:15:57.571Z

…but some goals & enterprises rely on the ability to falsify or manipulate signifiers of trust in order to masquerade as trustworthy for the purpose of gaining an advantage over a thing that is by not being one of those but getting to be treated like one…again…the number of different things you can map that onto is the sort of infinite scroll of a list that forms the sort of rabbit hole we signpost “that way madness lies”

Nuke them from orbit. Liberal officers don’t do this, it’s a one sided problem.

You can be quietly political outside of uniform. If you choose to be overtly and repeatedly political in uniform we can introduce you to the DD214.

Like we discharge people for failing to meet PT scores….

And sure, PT tests are more black and white.

But we can say it’s command discretion on sending someone for a JAG review on if what they did was overly political.

3 strikes you’re out or something.

Then, inevitably, when some good people get discharged because “supporting the Constitution” is apparently political, maybe Congress will do its job lol

A key dilemma with the most vocal instance of this phenomenon is that he is working directly for political appointees such that it appears that uniformed GO's are incapable of wielding the UCMJ to these ends.If that protection disappears, I imagine it will be a weapons free environment. But-

Brian Kerg (@briankerg.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T21:51:30.181Z

In the meantime, we still have the institutional damage from the fact that no senior officer is holding a subordinate officer accountable. This manifests from partisan political protection, but remains revealing of the willingness of GOs to risk their own prospects to hold a FGO accountable.

Brian Kerg (@briankerg.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T21:55:10.295Z

This tension is not novel – we've seen it before. As one example, significant ethical battles were fought in the 'unification debates' following WW2. The Truman Admin was very adamant in its views and aimed to stifle dissenting opinions from its military officers on the matter.

Brian Kerg (@briankerg.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T21:57:24.188Z

Some held their tongues, others did not. Some FOGOs spoke out survived with the vocal support of Congress, others were relieved for cause despite the support of Congress. But this showed a willingness to engage with ethical and career risk to protect the institution and what it did for the nation.

Brian Kerg (@briankerg.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T21:58:59.124Z

this isn't a novel point, but when he fired CQ for his skin color/Francetti for having a vagina and not a single GOFO said anything/quit, that die was cast

Mike Black (@mikeblack114.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T22:07:01.257Z

And so the rest of the force will live with that experience, and its culture will likely be adversely impacted as a result – when the ethical fire was hot, no one dared approach it.

Brian Kerg (@briankerg.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T22:03:26.657Z

I do wonder to what extent the Chiefs in particular were already viewed by most as de facto political appointees. Like, whether or not you think Biden picked those two specifically because of their demographics, "the President is entitled to the advisors of his choice" and all that

Vlad Oligarchsky (@opulenceihazit.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T22:13:34.455Z

The ultimate checks against military malfeasance are Congress and the American electorate. Otherwise you fall into a sort of Deep State situation like Turkey, Egypt or Pakistan. Not a desirable alternative. Germany might be the only other viable model

I think part of the corrosion is that we have a unique situation where malfeasance in the executive or senior chain of command is not meaningfully counterbalanced by Congress. The majority party in Congress has consciously made itself subservient and acquiescent to the executive so grossly that

Ian TB (@iantb.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T22:17:30.889Z

There is truly no top cover for those in uniform who would push back against some of this. This doesn’t excuse failures to rein in unethical behavior but it makes it much harder knowing the ‘normal’ legislative counterweight has become a voluntary eunuch, and that leaves you utterly alone.

Ian TB (@iantb.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T22:17:30.890Z

Update: I contacted the email address for Robert Scott Horton listed on New York’s Attorney Online Services, and he confirmed that he runs this account. So it’s not impersonation, just misinformation and AI slop.

Travis Brown (@travisbrown.dev) 2026-01-16T15:58:57.788Z

…now…people could be using a similar routine to try to get ICE to spin its literal wheels going after them so it can’t get traction with the mileage it’s trying to make…but…this…would incidentally be that…in the context of all the other stuff it’s composed of & in context of?

Is anyone keeping track of how many times Scott Horton posts things that are complete bullshit, and then keeps them up after they get denounced because they're doing the numbers? This is the 3rd time I've seen it in the last ~month, and I've only seen Horton reposted at most twice that many times.

Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) 2026-02-07T20:57:52.052Z

Here’s an email I got from Scott Horton when I contacted him last month to confirm that he runs this account. There’s something very wrong with this guy, and yet I see him posting misinformation and ripping off actual journalists in my feed every day, because Bluesky runs on this shit.

Travis Brown (@travisbrown.dev) 2026-02-08T04:59:46.553Z

Check the words. Check the time stamps.

Fucking clown shit.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE THE COPYPASTA (Free Link!)

This is not that.

This is a man using the labor of a woman and not crediting her.

He could have just reskeeted.

He didn’t.

…don’t fuck with my man the foxtrot guy…seriously…I don’t want to lay down my life in the sense that I “have a life” to go all inigo montoya about shit…& I am too old to be taking up playing with swords…probably…unless maybe @luigi-vuoto has a hook up for hook-sword class for the nearer-retirement than recess crowd…or I figure out the wire-work to go bullet timing about the place jumping off the sword in my hand or the clouds the way mere mortals treat branches & boulders…&…probably then I’d be having so much fun I’d forget I had to come back & kick scott’s ass…but…like…how about let’s all of us not have to find out?

  1. i did catch over the weekend that the pentagon will no longer be taking officers from harvard….im sure by design to create a more loyal officer corps..but uhh…arent harvard and yale responsible for a good chunk of the higher echelons of said officer corps?

you know…the kind of positions where highly educated might be more useful than loyalty?

seems like the kind of thing what will bite you in the ass when push comes shove is all im saying…

    • …they already went for the libraries at the military colleges…to make sure those only have stuff whiskey-dick pete wouldn’t call down the willie-pete on to fahrenheit 451 the shit out of on account of what it says about people like him not being fit for enlistment much less command

…they…think making the CIA World Factbook *go away* is a fucking power move, FF-actual-S

…at no point does it seem like you’ve reached a real understanding of the depths of stupidity wedded to inhuman levels of cognitively dissonant tests of the wilful component of the requisite pervasion of the perversions of ignorance into what you purport to profess to be reality…even if you think that was a thing they did the same way they stripped walls of plaques commemorating historical achievements in civil rights or sins like slavery because they think if they take the words away pretty soon they can tell that their way & brand it the only history that isn’t faked up to make them look like the bad guys

…they’re…both counting on there being enough people that dumb…or enough people who’ll credit the balance of probabilities supporting that there probably are a workable number of people that dumb…&…near as anyone seems to be able to demonstrate even if they won’t say it…they are at least that dumb themselves…for the revisionist history thing to fly long enough for their crash & burn swan dive routine to go the distance

…but…shit…you wanna do that…& your bet is to nudge people to ask grok enough for your version to disseminate…&…you could have incrementally poisoned the well at the level of the World Factbook…almost the full six-clicks of separation you need to have vanishingly few people follow all the way to the source from whichever surface they vectored themselves into on the internet

…makes me think about another guy who thought being in the business of being paid to provide the pretext for a war fought under false auspices was a fine & lucrative line of work

…it’s dangerous to get high enough on your own supply to think you only spend time in rooms where you’re the smartest one in them…but…the hubris of still thinking that way when you sometimes go…out of doors…is…I mean…oof

…so…yeah…no factbook now…on account of they’re too smart to have that still be a thing…because facts are their enemy…&…they’re real warfighters…who are better at the hybrid warfare & all that than…uhhh…the popular memes suggest?

    • Mostly the post graduate degrees on irrelevant shit like “management systems” or “Masturds of Bidniz Administration.” The more relevant degrees would be in history or technical ones. BTW Kegsbreath is a Yale and Hahvahd DUI/RW DEI grad.

Not many Ivy League undergrads end up in the military if ever.

  2. Oh!!! I can translate that gen alpha letter vomit.
    It’s incel whining.
spiked his cortisol – stressed him out
foid – incel shorthand for their prior insult to women, femoid
moid – insult for a man for not being the right kind of incel man and being interested in women actually
munting – their stupid word for doing things to look better than other people
mogging – looking hotter than other people, can also mean like to one-up someone (like you show up and are way better looking then them and stole all the attention from them)
    SMV – sexual market value
chadfishing – stupid incel men making fake dating site profiles with attractive man pictures to trick women, like catfishing but somehow gendered (which is odd to me since I always thought catfishing could be men or women going after either gender??)
Clavicular is a proper noun here, probably referencing that dude.

So, using these textual analysis skills I learned in college and grad school.

Dude was fooling around having fun at the club when some women showed up and made him panic.
Is it better to preen and impress the other men at the club while ignoring women or to try to trick women online?

Anyways, the simple fact that the basic answer of “literally do anything to talk to women and not be a dick” would help incels be happier but they’d rather be angry, lonely douchebags tells us everything we need to know about the incels.

    • Then they’d have to admit they’re wrong. Incels never do because that would destroy them.

It’s amazing how things change when you’re not creepy or weird around women… as not creepy or weird as I can get.

    • …I am genuinely impressed in approximately similar degrees to appalled…I’d give you a round of applause, even…but…have you ever heard the one about the reward for a job well done being a tougher job?

Clocking into the Discourse Factory, sighing resignedly when I read my card and see that today I must politely discuss the nigger biomass problem with user DeltaForce1488. Another day as a neoliberal on X, the everything app.

…turns out you might be working on the frontlines & they just forgot to make the adjustments on your paycheck or job spec

…I can’t see that coming as news to you…but…here’s to all the people wearing all the un-seen hats they take off to one another while the ones who think the MAGA hats are braggable assets to an ass set to brag on something?

      • Yeah I followed that conversation too.
Leftist annoyed at a group of liberals missing the point on the problem of capitalism and fighting amongst themselves instead of working on the bigger picture – class consciousness and fucking over billionaires.

    • When I read the original, I just thought “that’s stupid” and moved on. Reading your translation now just makes me sad.
I hate to think about what dismal precincts you’ve had to surveil to learn those things.

    • s it better to preen and impress the other men at the club

Uh, I would think Nick Fuentes is at the wrong kind of club and I’m pretty sure the gay men would be rejecting them unless they’re at another kind of club. A self loathing one… like CPAC or TPUSA.

  3. So what exactly would ICE be doing at the Superbowl?
Lowest ticket prices start at around $3500, undocumented/unauthorized immigrants aren’t going to the game.
Working at the stadium? Oh sure, like the event organizers aren’t checking staffing eligibility etc etc?

The one thing that ICE could theoretically be doing here is assisting with stopping sex trafficking since that always spikes around major sporting events. Except these assholes are more likely to be doing the sex trafficking than investigating it.

    • The same thing they’re “doing” at the Winter Olympics: Watching the event(s). I’m sure somebody used this as a shakedown to get the Super Bowl committee to provide X number of tickets for “ICE agents,” all of whom will be upper management like ICE Barbie who will sit in the stands and enjoy the free perks of being “on duty” at the Super Bowl.

      • I forgot to disclose that I actually did marketing for whatever Super Bowl was in Atlanta years ago. People go after any vendor even tangentially associated with the game trying to get free tickets. It’s like chum in a shark tank. The Super Bowl people are well aware of this, and there are zillions of restrictions on free seats and God help you if you get one and try to scalp it. That’s how I know it’s a typical Trump administration shakedown. “Nice event you’ve got here — I think we’re going to flood it with 10,000 ICE agents unless I get hosted in a private box.”

  4. Another problem for Kid Rock… is he loves them underaged girls at least in his songs.

I don’t know why MAGAt think he’s some kind of virtuous shithead unless he reminds them of their 2nd or 4th ex husband

    • MAGA doesn’t really grasp how songs work. They’ll fixate on a chorus and never bother to try to figure out from all the lyrics if the song is actually about what they assume it’s about (See “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen).

Also irony and sarcasm are concepts that their dim brains only vaguely comprehend. That makes parsing meaning from lyrics a painful exercise, so they simply don’t do it. LA LA LA LA BORN IN THE USA LA LA LA LA BORN IN THE USA

      • …much as I agree with all that…I suppose I have always rather supposed that in the case of bruce’s born in the USA the “I was…” in the line they imprint on is loadbearing?

…like…lola…she was a showgirl…but…*I* was born-in-the-USA in the sense that maybe they imagine you could tattoo like a kite mark…the imprinting mechanism can’t handle anything in the 2nd or 3rd person because empathy fucks with the dominant solipsism required for the song to mean what you want it to but it can’t if you listen to it…in a self-selecting sort of a way…that I genuinely believe wouldn’t work for those people that way nearly so well if that line was “we were…” or “if you’re…” or…in what might be their leading candidate for a worst case scenario “if they were…”…although…that would need someone like eminem to contort the line-reading or it’s not scanning in the spot traditionally provided

…just…not claiming that’s stuff operating in anything but a tiny handful of cases at any sort of conscious level…but…when they fire it up for another play through…even if the only line they belt out is “born in the USA” the “I was…” is registering as the cue to go again so you’re in time with the chorus & letting them feel like that’s them saying that the way they think has to be the way the song means it because otherwise the I isn’t them…the way it explicitly isn’t if you did ever listen to the words even once…even part of the way through even just one of the verses…but extra if you listened to all of all of them?

    • Owner of NE is a Trump loving asshole that was not too long ago caught up in a prostitution sting at a massage parlor & his team was proven to have cheated to win a Super Bowl. The Seahawks owner is the trust of Paul Allen run by his sister Jody. She unfortunately has to sell the team as part of the trust & it looks like most likely purchaser will be Jeff Bezos. On the bright side, the trust money goes to scientific research, education and community based groups. Hopefully the value goes up after today! Go Hawks!

    • I’ve been convinced for a while that Epstein was murdered, so I find it utterly unsurprising. I think most people feel the same way I do (feel free to dispute that point), and as more of the files get released it becomes more clear how many people … I mean scumbags … had a lot to lose if he was around and talking. So I think it simply adds more corroboration to the probability he was murdered and people will just nod and say, yeah, I knew it.

      • …the detail I was unprepared to run into let alone run down a way to verify had it that…whatever killed him…the cause of death was strangulation/asphyxiation in the manner that would be hanging if it were a suicide…& maybe lynching if it wasn’t…which…if anyone deserved a lynching…but…that the “ligature” found with the dead body…looked to the person that matches those pairs on a professional basis…to not be a match

…now…in a book or a movie or other work of overt fiction…I’d know what that means…but…assuming it could be shown to be true in this real-world scenario…some part of that would similarly need to find itself under the heading of an overt work of fiction

…or it could just be someone getting the wrong end of the stick about part of something that might be important that wouldn’t importantly make much difference to anything other than make you doubt your sanity…which seems to be a thing they actively like to bake into their shit

…either way…it’s not exactly a stretch to say that there were ways he was less of a liability dead than alive to some people who very much wouldn’t be bothered about “going there”…so…it’s never going to be implausible that he got dead with help he might not have been asking for to do that?

        • …just to be sure folks know I didn’t just invent all that nonsense but instead it seems to be what some stuff says that was in all the stuff you probably don’t want to look at because you know some of it you don’t want to see

Have to admit that it's kind of a weird mistake to get the date wrong on the announcement of the death of a guy who supposedly killed himself with a different ligature than was found at the scene

  5. …also…I don’t think this goes for anyone here…but…like…I might know more than one person this just made me think I might need to have a word with sooner than later?

according to a pediatric ER doctor my wife follows on Instagram they have started to see children coming in sick because their parents are asking ChatGPT what the correct dosage is on over the counter medication instead of just looking at the instructions on the bottle

One of the easiest ways to shoot down the idea that “AI” is an expert is to show how it deals with something people know about.

Younger readers may not get this as most appliances come pre-wired, but anyone 35+ can see these are chaotic fire hazards.

From Mastodon, AI asked how to wire a plug:
illustration of a 3-pin UK plug wired to probably burn down your whole house courtesy of an LLM (1 of 3)
illustration of a 3-pin UK plug wired to probably burn down your whole house courtesy of an LLM (2 of 3)
illustration of a 3-pin UK plug wired to probably burn down your whole house courtesy of an LLM (3 of 3)

      • …man…if you grew up in the land of three pin mains with manual switches at the socket & replaceable fuses in the plug…just travelling made you convinced the rest of the world ought to have burned down long ago…so…like…parents would tell children stories about daisy-chained christmas lights the way they would little red riding hood or whatever they thought not being caught by might inspire a reluctant child to eat their vegetables or whatever

…until pretty recently I’d never been as freaked out as I was by the idea there are people who think it’s sometimes handy to have a male-to-male power lead to pug one socket into another…like…I can even…if I try real hard & I imagine fully separated circuits with only one being attached to the board where the power comes in…even if I can’t really imagine a sane reason to want to…I suppose you could in theory feed the secondary circuit like all that wiring took the place of an extension lead by doing something of the sort…but the sheer number of ways for that to go badly have surely to outweigh any possible advantage to not just having a sane electrician wire it up in a normal way

…but now…after those…what is it the kids say…new nightmare: unlocked

…there are way too many really fucking good reasons to not think of LLMs as search engines…but…at this point I think they ought to be basically illegal to use for anything that could or should have been a search

…they can’t even reliably tell you whether or not an actual search result is accurate or obviously bullshit…getting them to do the search & tell you the results is worse than not bothering to read past the summary at the top of the search…people think they’re in star trek & they’re saying “Computer – do the thing” & they could literally hurt themselves & others because it isn’t being made clear to them what parts of that *are* *not* *happening*…however much the parts that are happening might make them somehow incapable of perceiving the difference

…if the prompt had read “show me how to wire up a single plug such that I could plausibly burn down anything from a whole house to an entire block”…like a contemporary remix of some page from the anarchists’ cookbook about how to rewire a telephone junction box to make a particular person’s landline live enough to kill them when they reached for the ringing handset…which may or may not be a real entry in whatever was the “real” one of those…I can’t actually remember where I came across someone claiming that sort of thing was in there along with the entirely more plausible (on account of being a real thing people actually did) stuff about how to jiggle the switch that hangs up the call to send the right signals to the exchange to make your long-distance calls…or costly dial-up modem connection…free-as-in-beer…if you knew someone who could get their phreak on…so…the mathematics of registers & exchanges is another brand of alchemy & the apocryphal cookbook of anarchists…unless it was a whole other thing than anything I ever saw anything claiming to be so much as a part of…would appear to need a different word than anarchist…but…I keep saying not enough people read the man who was thursday…so I’m still stuck sounding like I’m being unreasonable harping on about that…at this rate I’ll wind up sounding like if I say for the love of anything you deem holy do not ever in your life allow anyone in your vicinity or even in your knowledge to wire up a plug like one of those images was your guide…that would be a good reason to trust the LLM over the raving oddball random from the internet…but…I really am sitting here wondering how more people aren’t dead already because they think they have a thing they can ask questions that gives them answers about things that you can be lethally wrong about?

  6. …so…look…the telegraph…think of that like maybe the last generation of a fine old aristocratic family that’s on their uppers but trying to play off the threadbare bits as genteel

    Even the Telegraph likes him.

Just beyond parody at this point
