I can relate, got home from a week off with lots of computer work to do and it wasn’t working. Got things straightened out but set me back a bunch. Wife is a stressed out mess from work & my honey-do list is extremely long. Called my mom for her birthday and she has Covid. She feels fine, fully vaxed but at her age, very scary stuff! Hope everyone had a great 4th.
I decided to do some restaurant exploring on the way home from work because I was damn hungry. Found a new for me southern BBQ joint that served a smoked chicken sandwich I was curious to try then I went to Bed Bath And Beyond to get a new pillow, some sheets and a new veggie peeler for mom.
Then I went home and passed out for a couple of hours from the food coma.
2. Where does one even FIND towels ^THAT^ expensive?!? (For God’s sake, even an ULTRA-EXPENSIVE sheet set can be gotten for $500.00 or less!🤯
And 3. Was the cotton for these linens grown by Oompa-Loompas or something?!? Is THAT why the linens were that expensive???🤔🧐🥴
Admittedly, I am a TOTAL cheapskate, when it comes to linens, and I buy pretty much ALL of my stuff on clearance at Target**…
But SERIOUSLY, how.in.the.HELL does one spend FIVE GRAND on bedding & bath-linens, for SIX MONTHS’ worth of living somewhere?
Are they bathing the *ENTIRE* RCMP and all the Mounties’ dogs & horses for those 6 months?😱😱😱
(**usually when they’re doing a store remodel, & they slash the prices to diddly-squat, so that the employees don’t have to haul the shit back & forth across the floor as the remodel team is setting up the new shelving layout!)
She spends a lot of time screaming about how much money the gubbiment wastes (like most alleged fiscal hawks, it is about things they don’t like the government to spend which is anything but $$ for defense contractors as they don’t even want to spend money on military/veteran healthcare.) Then like most morons, she goes high on the hog when it comes to lining her own pockets. I’m pretty sure she took some of those things home with her.
BTW, she’s the closest thing we have to Moron Talbot Gangreene or Lauren Bobo which is pretty damn close.
Had an issue two weeks ago where my new printer wouldn’t print. It’s networked, so it should work on any of the machines in the house, but it stopped. My company had a big security update, so I think that’s why my work computer won’t connect any more, but all of them stopped. Had to reinstall everything on my personal computers. Nothing I can do about work — they don’t let you administer your machine. But I don’t really need to print from it. It was just handy rather than walking down the hall to one of the others.
Every time I make my twice monthly trip to the office my laptop discovers new and interesting ways to not connect to the network. This time it was because the Wi-Fi was keeping the hard wired connection from working. Which is not a thing but there it was.
Global used to be one of the most right wing news outlets but now that basically all of the news outlets are owned by the elite alt-right assholes it is now one of the most left…even though it is now considered centre-right in comparison to all the rest. Especially since the Toronto Star was sold a few months ago.
Sold just in time for the provincial election Doug Ford would have lost if not for all the news outlets claiming Ford a majority before the campaigns leading to the lowest voter turnout in decades.
17.7% of Ontarians won a majority government for the next 4 years and it’s byebye funding for public health care and schools for the sake of privatisation.
Doug made his nephew – who has never set foot in Queen’s Park – a cabinet minister. He has also made 73 of the Conservative MPPs ministers each with a $16k+/year raise…whilst maxing out raises for nurses @ 1%.
I spent way too much time finding out Power Point is way too fussy about turning a simple slideshow of jpgs into an mp4 file.
I could understand some complex deck with embedded videos, complex transitions, irregular timings, sound effects and all the rest — but just a long series of jpgs with standardized timings? Microsoft just hates its customers. I finally found it played on Irfanview but multiple other programs including WMP caused endless hiccups and jags, of course.
Things have been really whiplash-y around our place lately, and in a way, I feel like I’m living in a world where the floor suddenly & without warning *at any time of day* changes from solid to eggshells I’m not supposed to break, to “The floor is LAVA!!!” and back again at breakneck speed🥴
But then GOOD stuff is also happening in there–like how I got offered a job today, with the school district’s before & after school program/summer program–so instead of the “less than half-time” pay we get when we do summer school, I’ll be getting a full 40 hours a week (different pay rate, but more than the grocery store job!), *plus* i now have a defined schedule through August, so I can pick up more hours at the Grocery Store, too.
And my cousins got a call again eeeeearrrly this morning…
I can’t remember if I ever updated everyone, back when they had that first liver available for their little boy, earlier this spring…
Once that liver arrived at the hospital, and the transplant doctors got a really good look at it, they ended up canceling the transplant, because that first liver was “too damaged to proceed.”
There have been a couple more calls in the intervening months–including one just a few weeks ago, where the transplant was *almost* a go, but each time it’s been “Load him up, grab the bags, get him to Masonic, and start alllllll the tests while waiting for that donor liver to arrive.”
They got a call again last night–just a little after midnight, then a confirmation shortly before 1am this morning–“Be in Minneapolis by 5 am.”
They got to Masonic juuuust after 4, and the Peanut has had Covid, tests, catheters & IV’s placed, and been going through the whole “battery of tests checking for a match” again today.
If all goes well, this donor liver is set to arrive in Minneapolis *sometime* around 10pm this evening, and if it’s ok and everything matches up ok, my Cousin’s little guy may have a brand-new liver by the morning.
Which would be an AMAZING gift–not only for his Momma & Daddy–but an amazing early-birthday gift for both his Aunties (his Dad’s sisters) too, because both of them** have their birthdays on the 8th💖💝💫
**oldest sister is a year-ish younger than their oldest brother & I, and baby sister was born on older sister’s birthday
No word yet, on his Caringbridge page, and we just crossed 11:30pm here…
I’m hoping that means good news–the next couple hours will most likely be the tell–it’s 2 hours “up home” to where they live (the town where we all grew up), and the times they got called down here for the previous livers, they typically got the news, then made the drive home–sending out the update once they had the little dude safely tucked in his bed💝
Those times, though, there was *also* usually some kind of note/update earlier in the day, that tests were going long, or something “needed more checking”–and we’ve had none of that sort of update today…. so fingers & toes are still crossed over in *this* part of Minneapolis, that the Docs are pulling an all-nighter in that awesome purply-pink building, that’s just a couple miles over & next to the River💖💞💗💓💝💫
You are aware that you’re one of the youngest among us regular chatters here, right? But if there is anything I can do to assist you with pc issues, pm me.
The problem is very simple. My laptop was a cheap model when I bought it in 2010. While it’s a good little trooper, poor baby had Windows 7 when I bought it and struggles to start up from sleepy times sometimes. Planned obsolescence is a turd.
first week back at work so im just knackered…also decided to cut back on my drinking again…which in my case means just not doing it as ive only got an on/off switch….kinda figured i’d get some interesting withdrawal symptoms but other than some difficulties sleeping which i always have its been crickets…eh…cant complain about that i guess
in unrelated news…someone blew up the georgia guidestones….lol
i think john oliver mentioned some nutjob politician over there wanting to do that….i’d start the questioning there
Kudos for the non-drinking. LOL @ the guidestones…
…conspiracy theories aren’t what they used to be (stupid) because now they’re just nuts.
Example; the fuckheads were all about the “ok” hand signal meaning 666 because celebrities “had to do it” as they signed their souls to the devil but now all who believed that shit use it as “white power”…which perfectly exemplifies how the idiots can stop on a dime to contradict themselves. Political division is so rampant these days that even conspiracy “theories” are political.

Oh shit! That’s the worst when there’s dumb computer issues and you’re backed up on work, too.
Sorry @loveshaq. Hoping your mom recovers quickly and safely.
Glad she’s feeling fine, fully vaxed, and I hope she makes an easy & complete recovery asap, Shaq!💖💞💝

Did you get it with a side of coleslaw?
Yes. And some fries.
@manchucandidate You didn’t spend $19,404 did you?
Sadly no. I’m no fiscal conservative…
For reference everyone:
I had a long moment of thinking that was Candice Bergen, the actress.
When Candice Bergen is trending in Canadumb on Twitter, which is almost every day, it is filed under “entertainment” and Murphy Brown fans complain.
Myo, I KNOW that Target failed up there, because y’all have other stores….
But $5,202.35 for bed and bath linens?!?!??????
When they replaced the MATTRESS for “just”$3,832.11😳🤯🥴
A SIX MONTH STAY in that house, tops, and they needed 5K in bed & bath linens?!???
1. What kind of “MOAR THAN YASHAR’S RECS!!!” bath-towel/bath-sheet battle are we talking here???
2. Where does one even FIND towels ^THAT^ expensive?!? (For God’s sake, even an ULTRA-EXPENSIVE sheet set can be gotten for $500.00 or less!🤯

@manchucandidate PREACH, BROTHER!

First-world problems, I know.

Oh no, what a shame.
Sucks that no carrion eaters had a chance to make a meal out of him.

Technical Difficulties feels apt lately!🙃

I wish I had more fingers to cross that all works out for the cousin’s family. Hope they make it the rest of the way.
Both job & medical news sound great! I hope it all works out & please keep us posted.
Thanks, @LoveShaq & everyone!

Seconded @emmerdoesnotrepresentme
Fingers crossed for the transplant!
My brain is having technical difficulties.

I would argue that depends on if ur talking physical age or mental age. (Insert fart joke here)
That’s very considerate!

There really is no hope for the future.
its a little troubling that the group buying into conspiracy theories to some extent or another is growing rapidly…
like i feel like its harder and harder to have a normal conversion with people over here and not suddenly get hit by a conspiracy angle out of nowhere
figure its only going to get worse as things get more expensive and people start looking for reasons and people to blame
