TGIF [DOT 12/7/24]

Happy Friday! Hope everyone had a great week. Busy week for me with work and trying to spend time with my parents after work every evening. My mom had a really good day today so we skipped dinner, ordered a pizza and hung out with her. She usually wants to go to sleep and isn’t always lucid so that was a good day!

  1. So some personal-adjacent news: I spent the day in the local mega-hospital with my in-laws, because my mother-in-law had extensive surgery. The upshot, though, is all good news: She had a hysterectomy and a tumor removed — I’m not going to get into specifics but holy shit it was a GIANT tumor — and the testing found it benign, which is fantastic. She doesn’t have a family history of cancer but she smoked for decades and was considered high-risk.

Anyway, did I miss anything? Joe Biden still old?

  2. I didn’t watch the Biden interview last night because I was honestly scared to. However, it seems he did a largely credible job with some stumbles (yes, some really blatant ones but if I was dealing with Trump and Putin simultaneously I’d probably insert their names accidently when talking too). That’s my impression culled from press reports that seem even-handed.

Biden shows foreign policy depth in news conference with a few stumbles

Headlines however are blaring a different story, blaring about how Democrats are turning on Biden.

I’m reminded of an exercise I did in graduate school that involved running a fake business for a semester. The one sure way to fail was to panic and try to change your business model halfway through the semester. Democrats are doing that right now.

    • I watched the whole thing & starting out calling his vp “vice president Trump” was not a good start.  He stumbled with words even more than he used to or had to stop and search for words & when he was on it was just stuff he remembered from speeches about how good the economy is.  He needed to to say more of “Donald Trump is a pedophile felon that worships Putin, Hitler & Hannibal Lecter, yes, I am old but he is a monster.”

  3. Project 2025 coverage is finally gaining steam.

Trump claims not to know who is behind Project 2025. A CNN review found at least 140 people who worked for him are involved

Six of his former Cabinet secretaries helped write or collaborated on the 900-page playbook for a second Trump term published by the Heritage Foundation. Four individuals Trump nominated as ambassadors were also involved, along with several enforcers of his controversial immigration crackdown. And about 20 pages are credited to his first deputy chief of staff.

In fact, at least 140 people who worked in the Trump administration had a hand in Project 2025, a CNN review found, including more than half of the people listed as authors, editors and contributors to “Mandate for Leadership,” the project’s extensive manifesto for overhauling the executive branch.

    • I’ve really stopped giving a shit about data security with my own devices etc due to the neverending data breaches from companies. Like yes I use good passwords and don’t shop on random websites etc, but like at this point my info has been shared already so why stress about my personal choices.
