  1. Not to beat an almost-dead horse, but the reporters for the Times openly complaining about not being able to dox the jurors is goddamn infuriating. They know full well what happens if they do it — though they’d have Maga Haberman write a “Gee isn’t it weird that all these people get death threats after Trump talks about them, such a coincidence!” — but they’re still whining about it being in the “public interest” to know. No! It is not the public interest to get these people killed for “journalism.”

    • The jury is comprised almost exclusively of former readers of the NYT’s (late, lamented) “Weekender” package:

      https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/18/nyregion/trump-trial-jury-hush-money.html

I have never once been struck from a jury. I would have been the first one in if I had been called for this. “Juror 1 showed up on the first day with a tin of homemade walnut brownies, causing Court Officer Jackson to go into anaphylactic shock. He described himself as a barely mobile, semi-retired ‘schlub’ and inquired about kitchen facilities available for common use. When asked about President Trump Juror 1 replied, ‘Oh, I’ve met many Trumplings, they’re a dime a dozen in New York. Every grifter and hustler, every guy on the make whose Dad despised him, and who in turned despises his own sons, they’re not hard to find. But I’ll tell you, I actually met Donald Trump, twice, in restaurants, were were seated at adjacent tables, this was well before his first run for the Presidency, and he…'”

    • One of the huge ironies is how happy they are to keep critical details about Republicans under wraps against the day sometime far off in the future they might get a book contract.

Everyday people facing death threats for the next six weeks and possibly longer get treated like they’re nothing. Jared Kushner – well, let’s wring our hands about his privacy.

One of the big reasons why Trump was finally busted for fraud is because Forbes was the one place that decided all of his boasting about things like his penthouse was actually news that needed to be fact checked and then compared to his financial filings. Everyone else just treated him as a funny guy.

      • Which I find is ironic as most of those GOPer tomes end up in the reduced price sale bin like a Jar Jar Binks Star Wars Toy (not ironic as most of them come off with the same intellect as Jar Jar.)

  2. Also, the TP all over the site is funny, I’m glad we didn’t finish ALL the bourbon and Sheldon is safe in his tank this morning … but who’s the joker who spray painted “HERB LIFE” in the living room? That’s not cool! Now I have to buy more booze AND paint?!

  3. Had to drive mom back to the seniors home from the hospital and then back to the hospital the past couple of days.

Why? In Ontario, seniors are allowed to be away from their senior home bed for a max of 59 days before the bed goes to someone else (fair enough.) So mom, having super elite dementia, needs more than the usual 59 days for the dementia specialists to figure out her drug regime.

She spent the entire first trip criticizing my driving and the 2nd trip sleeping. She only tried to jump out of the car twice (foiled by child proof locks.)

I wish it was sleeping both ways.

Dad was happy to see her, but mom was mean to dad. I was still curious as to why that’s the case. My sisters clued me in on that. They told me that mom became meaner to dad as his dementia progressed because he couldn’t do as many of the things she needed him to do. The sad thing is that while we kids were nicer to dad and more patient, mom got meaner and quite impatient with him. This probably explains why she’s been mean to him since her dementia went full blown.

    Sigh.

  4. Anyone remember the Fox News host talking about the worst women will have to do is drive a few hours?  A minor inconvenience?

and just to prove the cruelty is the point…

I’m pretty surprised they are doing this.  Can they really keep him in place and keep their majority when this investigation ends?

  5. What’s the political move to make for the Dems?  Is it to support Johnson and keep him Speaker, hoping to keep the (R) shit show front-and-center leading up to the election?  Is it to oust him, and remind the public of the (R) shit show now?  Is it to attempt to get Jeffries elected, and show the (R) non-cooperation to the public leading up to the election?  O, is it something else?

    • Not an expert, of course, and I don’t even play one on TV but: I wouldn’t support Johnson just to piss off the party crazies because they’re clearly not going to play ball anyway. Let him fail, let them squabble. They might not be able to get a new speaker any time soon, and the last time this happened was one of the rare occasions when the DC media actually noticed the mouth-frothing batshittery of the GOP.

Feels like “your nominee is in court on trial every day” and “your representatives can’t elect a speaker for months again” is not the worst media narrative for Democrats.
