Happy Friday gang. Hope your week is going well!
My work week was short but felt long. Only have to make it through next Thursday and I’m off for 11 days. Can’t wait!

Popular? I don’t believe you.
The popular outgoing governor’s denigrations of Cox have shown no sign of slowing, and coupled with Cox’s own comments this week, signaled a potential shift in tone for the race.

Squee!
Have a great day!
Cheney was smart to record the call. Seems that dipshit Hagerman avoided receiving three calls before Cheney got fed up and left the message. My bet is Hagerman was hoping to not talk to her so she could say Cheney never conceded. Of course, in typical RWNJ fashion, she thought muting the audio would somehow be “proof”. Fucking assholes all.
These MAGAts make a Cheney look good and reasonable. Never thought I’d write that.
They aren’t sane smart folks.
I look at it this way: people like Cheney created people like Hagerman, thinking they could keep the ignorant rabble under control. They miscalculated wildly.
Like Iraq?
$110 mil is a lot of BBB coupons.
As for work…
I’m watching the great initiative fall apart for the reasons I expected.
These clowns don’t understand process. You would think they should because they are manager types and some even worked on the production line, but nope. Instead of listening to people who do know, they’re plugging ahead on their ideas which are horribly wrong which is going to make this a giant clusterfuck.
These fuckwits are proving Spinal Tap’s contention that “It’s a fine line between stupid and clever.”
That’s what happens when you pick people for loyalty over brains.
I’m just watching on the sidelines soaking it in. Some folks have suggested that I somehow intervene because I’m smart and knowledgeable. I laughed. How? A couple of the most senior folks they have on the team I have clashed with or have personal issues with. They aren’t going to listen to me. So it’s better for me to just shut my fucking mouth and let them figure it out… if they can.
Carry on. Don’t get sucked into “representing” other people. I assure you that’s simply going to bite you in the ass. Do your job, keep quiet, and let the chips fall where they may. I speak from painful experience. If you start speaking out, you’ll be labeled the problem.
One of the best things about working from home is that I am utterly detached from any office politics. I’m pretty sure they occur. We occasionally have an abrupt departure. But they don’t impact me and I don’t ask any questions. I just turn in my work and move on to the next assignment. My wife tells me about shit at her job and I think, “How fucking petty.” And then I give her the exact same advice.
Absolutely don’t step in.
No reason to do the work that you’re not being compensated for here. No reason at all.
Randy’s back!
The subtext of a lot of those whining articles about how important it is to get everyone back in the cubes is that there are a lot of execs and managers who are too incompetent to manage and without office politics they’re nothing.
I think a big part of the problem is management, too. Work from home is very simple to manage when people have defined tasks that they must accomplish. Turn in your work, and I don’t care when or where you do it.
But a lot of managers don’t have any job skills beyond “management.” So their day-to-day is meetings and emails and occasional performance evaluations that you have to write for them. They literally can’t point to anything and say, “I accomplished that.” Supposedly they’re helping YOU to accomplish that, but we all know how that works.
Work from home is making it increasingly obvious that there is a layer (or several) in most companies that don’t actually PRODUCE anything, but take home a large paycheck. You shouldn’t earn six figures for occasionally checking in with your direct reports. But there’s a ton of managers who do exactly that.
I had one who spent 100% of her time literally organizing and conducting meetings about the work everyone else was doing. It wasn’t useful because she couldn’t do the job so she had no pertinent information to offer, and it was counter-productive because it wasted time that we could use to actually get things done.
So we are seeing pushback from insecure people who are frightened that their cushy scam is going to start collapsing.
Pretty much. The best managers I had didn’t get all squishy about managing Work At Home folks.
See my early whinging about work. Office politicking and management skills are necessary for management, but shouldn’t be the management’s ONLY skills. Where I work, sigh, they mistake loyalty as competency.
While this is true, the truest evangelicals of “back to office” are commercial real estate holders, who stand to lose billions if even a relatively small number of businesses decide to do more WFH and they scale back their space. Those are the people who are shrieking to the WSJ and Times and WaPo and every business journalist that it’s a calamity if people aren’t back at their desks five days a week.
The mystery as to where is Trump’s legal defense — or even public defense — continues. There may be valid PR reasons for keeping his public appearances down, but he’s boxing himself in legally by doing almost nothing with clearly incompetent lawyers.
Captain Combover’s latest smokescreen is that he is going to “release the Mar-a-Lago videos” of the FBI search.
Go right ahead, moron. Release video footage of FBI agents removing classified documents from your storeroom. Please. Please do it.
No, he’s not getting competent legal advice.
Seal breaks into New Zealand home, traumatises cat and hangs out on couch
The sea’s anger continues. The seal broke into a marine biologist’s house. Coincidence? Unlikely.
Good labor news for once:
Starbucks ordered to reinstate US workers fired amid union campaign
Don’t f-ck around in Yellowstone:
Foot (and shoe) found floating in a Yellowstone park hot spring
I agree, there’s a plot afoot. Clearly the seal was probing our defenses. Logistically, targeting the marine biologists is critical, since they are in the best position to advise us on how to fight back. And of course you want your agent to appear cute and harmless. Coco the cat was paid off, probably in fish, to arrange entry and hide during the incursion. It all fits together. We are doomed.
Ew that Yellowstone story!
I know I’ve mentioned this before but National Parks WILL fuck you up if you are not careful and smart. My cousin’s husband went ‘off trail’ at Kings Canyon, fell over a waterfall and died in front of his entire family. It was beyond fucked up.
“Fly like an eagle…”
Just another Florida candidate trying to out Florida the field…
You have to wonder if there will ever come a point where Republicans will say, “Okay, now that’s going too far.” I mean, they sort of balked at “Defund the FBI” but then basically started sniveling to protect Trump.
And then there’s this from the 2022 Florida Statutes:
901.1505. (2) Any person who threatens a law enforcement officer, a state attorney, an assistant state attorney, a firefighter, a judge, or an elected official, or a family member of such persons, with death or serious bodily harm commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s.
I’m guessing no one is rushing to arrest this asshole.
Have fun with the tourism industry when the US Customs agents no longer work at the cruise ports and airports.
