Ok gang so I’m kind of freaking out because I’m going to be working remotely for a month from Ohio and I’m taking the cats with me. I’ll take any of your pro-tips on traveling with cats. The vet gave me gabapentin for the ride. Also my dad said the cats could stay in my brother’s house in between renters but he just rented it to some lady. Hope she likes cats! Argh!

Still up after a long flight to Vegas. Better than what happened to my friends who suffered a long miserable delay which meant I showed up first (and had to deal with the hotel rooms.) Fuck United.

I’m really not sure what happened to Biden on that stage. Honestly, this should have been a cakewalk. The questions were glaringly obvious and Biden should have had prepared responses for each one. I hate to say it but it seemed like a memory thing.
Biden seemed frail and weak and it was a poor contrast to that screaming orange oaf. Of course, one runs a country and the other one golfs and eats Big Macs. But they’d have done better to make sure Joe was getting plenty of sleep the two days before the debate.
There’s also a job interviewing technique where if someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, you sidestep it and answer the question you do want to answer. Biden should have been doing that:
“That’s a great question, Jake. Before we get to my answer I’d just like to note that my opponent has been convicted on 34 felony counts, is an adjudicated rapist, and has repeatedly claimed responsibility for overturning Roe v. Wade. Now let’s talk about his tax cuts, that ballooned the deficit and gutted the economy …” That’s basically what Trump did.
Biden did pick up over time, but I think a LOT of people only watched like the first 10 minutes. He needed a strong open and didn’t deliver.
I don’t think it’s going to matter in November — still too far away. But if they do a second one Biden needs to bring his A game. Or else call it off.
And Trump got really pissy and extra word-salad-y once Biden brought it up. Worth noting!
Trump HATES people pointing out that he’s a criminal. HATES IT. I’d have hammered it all night. “That’s an interesting response from the only convicted felon on this stage tonight. And to that I would say …”
Biden should have had five things he wanted the public to understand, and he should have hammered those instead of playing by the rules that Trump ignored.
This is what makes me so fucking crazy about establishment Democrats. Their complete inability and unwillingness to recognize that THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES PLAYING BY THE RULES. Biden could have still answered questions and given everyone solid policy answers. But everyone who prepped him clearly felt that was all he needed to do against someone who HE DEBATED BEFORE. They knew damned well what it was going to be like and they still pretended this was Lincoln/Douglas.
Yup, Biden didn’t sound great, especially at the start, and that’s gonna be catnip for a couple of weeks.
But the run the old person into the ground strategy worked so well with RBG, no reason why Biden can’t turn it around and … oh.
