Experience anything lately where you’re like thanks but I’d like to not do that again?
Usually I like Trader Joe’s items and I quite enjoy fall seasoning flavors (apple, cinnamon, clove, pumpkin, etc). I got a box of the seasonal Pumpkin O’s cereal from TJ’s and no thank you I knew after a few spoonfuls that the rest is getting fed to the birds. The flavor wasn’t the issue, it was that the texture in milk could be described as fuzzy Apple Jacks. Immediately fuzzy. Not like sat in the milk long enough to get soggy.
Well, didn’t get the position. Not really bummed because I know how political certain roles are. It just means I’ll be on rotating shift till I leave next year and make a bit more money than I planned so not everything is terrible.
At least they interviewed me instead of using me as a joke or treating me like I’m a fool like in previous interviews… so there’s that.

You know, I do what I can.
I bought two different sets of peppers from my farmers market for my annual batch of hot sauce, and both turned out to be duds. I thought I’d try something different from my usual all-jalapeno sauce. They were little guys with interesting shapes, but turned out to have no heat at all, not really any flavor either, and peppers that small aren’t really worth cooking with either. I finally got a batch of habaneros and cooked them all together and they evened out to be about the same as my usual all-jalapeno sauce, so nothing was wasted in the end.
My mom used to grow a bunch of hot peppers every year, but it really is hit or miss. One time she gave me a bunch from her garden saying these ones will light a fire. They didn’t. Meanwhile my dad was upset because he ended up with all the hot ones.
I wouldn’t be surprised if most hot sauce makers are a lot like the big winemakers who buy a ton of grapes every year from different places so they can mix and match for a consistent product.
Consistancy isn’t a bad thing – I like knowing what that bottle of Huy Fong Sriracha on the table of Asian restaurants is going be like before I put it on my food.
They just add capsaicin extract to get to the desired heat and pick peppers based more on desired color for the big hot sauce companies.
But, but, all those little bottles with cute labels talking about sun ripened artisanal hand picked heirloom peppers tended in small vats….
Any mistakes I made recently I will probably make again.

For example, I got home from work and was craving something sweet and thought you know, maybe those Pumpkin O’s which were beyond disgusting with milk might be okay dry?
NOPE. Still disgusting.
Totally OT, and I’m sure there will be more tomorrow, but very well known NY Magazine political reporter Olivia Nuzzi who wrote a very controversial BIDEN OLD piece and long article boosting RFK Jr., who is engaged to Politico’s Ryan Lizza (who was dumped by the New Yorker for sexual harassment) has been suspended by NY Magazine for carrying on a relationship with RFK Jr. while covering him for the magazine.
