  1. The attention on Trumps ramp walk is absolutely ridiculous. There are actual things going on right now and he dopes something evil everyday, why take focus away from that to highlight something that literally never happened? He just walked down a ramp,. nothing suspect about it, AT ALL. How about we cover all the judges they are pumping in, or something worthy (not we as in this page, we as in society, focusing on bullshit gets you just that, bullshit)? This is not a critique of this round up, because it was 1 or 2 lines in a ton of info, but as a whole, I must have seen 12 articles covering his walk down the ramp, all basically lying about it, which doesn’t make sense, because there us plenty to report in terms of shitty actions by Trump.

    • You’re right. The GOP under trump is doing despicable, dare I say deplorable, things. But, a lot of people can’t seem to understand, or care about, the gravity of these judicial appointments and policy decisions. Because for a lot of white people it won’t matter that much. Or they think it won’t. But they care about appearances. White exceptionalism runs deep. I believe the weaker and more foolish he looks, the more people certain types of people will turn against him. It undermines their belief in themselves and America as superior. The media needs to hammer away at them on all administrative actions. But keep the little humiliations coming. It drives trump crazy. It’s using his own tactics against him.

      • Yes. Arguing policy is a waste of time. Trump doesn’t comprehend any sort of legitimate criticism. It’s not that he brushes it off — he CANNOT COMPREHEND IT. Anything abstract is simply outside his limited abilities.

He can, however, comprehend basic emotions like humiliation and anger. So have at it, members of the press. Make fun of him all you want. Plus it gives me the opportunity to be #petty-like-potus and trot out the discussions of his height.

I don’t think he’s had a stroke. He can’t navigate stairs or ramps because of his weight and the ridiculous heels and shoe lifts he wears to try to be “tall.” He’s trying to pretend he’s 6’3″, but he’s not. It’s just that simple. There’s a good analysis of it here:
        https://medium.com/@DrGJackBrown/body-language-analysis-4382-why-is-donald-trump-leaning-forward-29a69fa4e742

He’s probably about six feet, maybe less. I read another very plausible analysis that based on Trump’s documented hand size, he’s actually about 5’9″. His baggy clothing is intended to disguise his actual height. That one is here:
        https://goodmenproject.com/politics-2/donald-trump-almost-definitely-five-foot-nine-bbab/

Not sure I buy that last one — but the research is interesting. I think Tiny Paws POTUS has mutant hands that are unusually little. But he’s not 6’3″ and his weird stair tricks are because of his ridiculous footwear.

  2. …my feeling is that it’s an excuse to talk about the fact he is neither young not in good shape but I do agree that there’s really no need to stretch the truth when the bald facts about the man & his actions supply such a surfeit of reasons to vote against him

…on balance, though, the fact that people are/were talking about it & that his response to that was not one that discouraged them seemed worth noting at least in passing

  3. Of course the death was a “homicide.” A homicide is any willful killing. A murder is an unjustified homicide.

It seems one of those officers has been fired, though my local paper does not identify him as the shooter.

  4. “Years ago, I stumbled across some startling research by economists in England and Australia: It takes longer to adapt to the pain of unemployment than to losing a loved one.”

I know that quite well. When I got laid off almost a decade ago, the bean counting bastards took away a job I enjoyed doing and I lost my purpose. It sucked to have month after month (12 months total) with no interviews or even a hint of a response. Instead I ended up raging at my former housemate (who pissed me off, but not to the extent I raged at him) to the point where I was very much like Khan Noonian Singh or Captain Ahab. Fortunately, I had no genesis device so “from hell’s heart I stab at thee” speech.

Even though I ended up getting a job 15 months after that I’m way overqualified for and doing shift work as a line worker, I know I would rather work/do something than be adrift without purpose.

It took me almost 2 years to get my sanity back. I still loathe my former housemate, but I don’t go all crazy eye Ahab if I think about him.

That is why I get the anger a lot of MAGA folks have because I’ve been there. However, I know it is directed at the wrong people. We know who…

  5. Sorry for the captain obvious take, but regarding the charts showing the US ranking on police shootings among developed countries: All those countries have stringent gun laws for the citizens, so the police are less fearful of the citizens. Gun eradication, more than time, vote like your life depends on it. (Mayhap we can learn from Australia and New Zealand?)
    https://www.businessinsider.com/gun-deaths-nearly-eliminated-in-countries-what-us-can-learn-2017-11#australia-paid-citizens-to-sell-their-guns-to-the-government-1

  6. So yesterday I see a Facebook event that a friend show interest in pop up. It is a July 4th “Take Back Our City” event with bikers, Proud Boys, and a bunch of white nationalists groups “peacefully” taking back the autonomous zone on Capital Hill. This is going to be a riot if it happens. I can’t believe this friend is thinking of going. I’m torn about confronting him. I told a mutual friend who thinks it was a mistake but I don’t know. He was in the military but has always talked to us like a liberal.

    • Ask him about it in a nonjudgemental way – why he’s interested in this particular event. I’ve found that sometimes getting people to explain themselves makes them think about why they are doing things. I doubt if it’s a mistake exactly, but it’s possible he’s being manipulated by the event propaganda. July 4 hits him at a patriotic level, doing something peacefully is appealing, especially in light of the media focus on the tiny amount of violence at the protests. Or he might be a quiet, liberal, racist. They exist, as I’m sure you know better than me. The Central Park Karen for instance. Supposedly her FB made her look left leaning. But when a real live Black man objected to her rule breaking she became what she probably didn’t even know she was. Could be the same with your friend. Liberal until THE BLACKS demanded real power.

      • Thanks. You are definitely right. I don’t usually see him more than a few times a year but ironically this happened when he is working a few miles from me for 2 weeks and we are going to get together for beers after work. His wife is from Ecuador & he grew up in Hawaii with the same multiracial friends as me so this is really surprising. I’ll let you know what happens if you want.

        • Please do, and good luck.
