11.) Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice
What about “Batman: The Movie” and the 1943 “Batman”?
Also, Batman and Robin is much more tolerable if you think of it as a movie that exists within a world where Batman is real.
Full disclosure: I haven’t seen those two. I guess “modern” theatrical movies would be a better title?
Batman: The Movie is 7 or 8 imo. Totally absurd like the show, but it’s campy fun in a way that Batman Forever wishes it could have been.
Michael Keaton’s delivery of that line to Jack Nicholson was pure genius.
BAtman: Mask of the Phantasm is number one. Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures are the only Batman I accept as canon. They are the Batman Bible. All other interpretations, while they may be entertaining to a greater or lesser extent, are mere shadows of the true Batman. This extends to the Justice League animated universe, which is the only true DC universe and is therefore inviolate. It exists, forever perfect and immutable, on my shelf and none may gainsay it in any format, including comics, television, or movies. I have spoken.
This attitude is extremely helpful when watching other DC product. It may be A Batman, but it is not THE Batman, and therefore to be appreciated or derided solely on its merits as an alternate universe Batman story. I may like it (The Dark Knight), I may hate it (Batman v Superman), but it in no way affects the one true Batman. I have no skin in the game.
*takes deep breath*
…nolan’s batman movies look pretty & all but bale ain’t particularly good & they ultimately butcher vastly superior source material in favor of poorly-plotted & more poorly-paced nonsense with potholes you could park a bat-tank in…even the first time through I was underwhelmed by those
*breathes again*
…but…you know…I don’t really care about batman on account of how I’m a grown up & all
*drinks entire coffee in one go & lights cigarette like it’s a french arthouse movie with subtitles*
