How has your weekend gone?
It’s finally a little cooler around here, so it’s been a yard work weekend. So much. So, so much. I don’t have a big yard at all, but I have a lot of weeding and trimming etc. I also needed to dig up and divide a fuckton of bulbs this weekend (it needed to happen at some point, ideally last fall but that didn’t happen).
Also some of the summer garden stuff just has been so shitty that I gave up and yeeted it. It’s not the end of the world to have empty space in my garden beds. Shitty, shitty year for green beans and yellow beans. Genuinely don’t know what quite went wrong with it, but yeah. Also hopefully I remember to see if there are beneficial nematodes for fucking flea beetles that like my green beans, although I was able to manage the pests this year.
What advice can I give you for a vegetable garden of your own? Whatever you see at the local farmers markets that is expensive? Don’t grow it unless you love it. Because things that are low effort (onions, kale for example) or things that are heavy yields (cherry tomatoes, hot peppers, green beans except not this fucking year) are the things that are cheaper at markets.
Went to see my dad (finally after two weeks because of this damn cold i got at the end of last week.)
We talked a bit and then saw the first inning of the Jays Yankees game. Went shopping and went to see if I could watch the game live on my free cable package. Shockingly, I can not.
So fuck Robbers. Just listened to the Yankees get thumped on the radio.
As for a quick dinner, I made pasta with cherry tomato ragu from the pan.
I was going to add air fried Spam cubes, but I don’t need to add much salt to my diet so I passed (for once.)
In unexpected news, something bit or stung(?) one of my toes while I was doing yard work a few hours ago and it fucking hurt and is a little swollen. Still throbbing a little about 2 hours later, but nothing like when it happened.
Like I expected to look down and see a bee sting in my toe but there’s no visible damage. So I don’t know what’s going on. We don’t have any ants that bite here, and this is the sort of insect pain that I would expect from annoying a bug in the tropics, not here.
We were gone to Chicago for 10 days and we came back to find our garden chock full of ripe veggies. And there’s been no rain, so I don’t know how this happened. Somebody came by and ate our kale, but other than that there’s no damage. Plus, the grass hasn’t grown a bit so I don’t have to mow so it’s a win all around.

i think its officially autumn now
but tbh all that still needs doing is picking what i assume will be the last of the peppers and toms for the year…and they mostly seem to like lots of water now they are bigly plants…
