The Tweet of the Year Has Already Been Sent

Look on my hot takes, ye mighty, and despair!

Thanks to everyone who plans on showing their complete ass on social media in 2022, but I’m sorry to say that the title has already been taken for absolute dumbest fuckery you’ll see all year:

But wait, there’s more!

Yes, folks, that’s one-time liberal darling Nate Silver comparing the decision to close schools for a not-fully-understood fatal virus that has killed both children and teachers — not to mention family members of both groups — to the invasion of Iraq which was based on, uh, something Dick Cheney wanted to do for funsies.

(It is really a good thing that all of Iraq’s schools stayed open during the invasion and occupation because what a disaster that might have been. Those poor kids might have missed some learning time; can you even imagine a bigger disruption to their lives?)

A lot of people hate on social media for many reasons, and it is an unhealthy place to reside. But really, it’s a benefit that we can see just how fucking stupid all of these presented-as-smart pundits are. They’re all giant idiots who can’t stop flapping their gums! It’s extra special since Nate Silver often derided the pundit class back in the day because he had statistics — and now, he’s one of them. One of them! One of them! One of them!

Anyway, Nate, congrats on already sealing up the award for dumbest social media post of 2022. Your award will be mailed to Fallujah, where I hear they don’t cancel school for damn near anything.

  1. I had a bad feeling when the NYT bought 538 that the fatuous air of the Times would infect Nate… and it did.

    Mark Twain updated…

It is better to keep off social media and let people think you are a fool than to post on it and remove all doubt.

  2. …& in such a competitive field, too

…& he wasn’t even done for the day…he did a whole thread of what by all rights ought to have been parody

…that was somewhere in the middle of it…but boy, howdy it’s been a long & winding road for the full-time wormtongue cosplayer from south carolina

      • …true…I don’t spend a lot of time wading through twitter but I’d come across his attempt to straddle the fence about condemning the actions of the mob while somehow claiming biden et al are the dangerously out of control threat before I saw your post & it seemed like it “could have been a contender”

…although ever since that one from 2016 you could probably say that about nearly everything that he’s said or done, I suppose?

  3. Every time I consider getting a Twitter account, something like this comes up and I just mash the NOPE button until I push it entirely through the control panel.

In Iraq, they maintain face-to-face learning until that school building and its students are vaporized by an unmanned drone strike. That’s where the real learning happens, guys.

Also, perfect header photo. You can’t get any more derp into that frame.

  4. Friendly reminder if someone doesn’t work with data scientists. Just because someone can do neat things with numbers doesn’t mean they have anything resembling coherent brains or critical thinking skills.

His stuff is predictive analytics. That’s working with machine learning algorithms where you define rules and let the computers do the thinking.

  5. And from the Cruz/Huckabee school of GOP “humor”:
