  1. …I found the comments where the DOTs @megmegmcgee absconded for got divvied up…&…it looks like somewhere in the alignment process 31/5/24 got…orphaned

    …so I may have been overly hasty in believing that a real DOT would displace this…& I haven’t the time…or the heart…to snatch @butcherbakertoiletrymaker ‘s early christmas present out of his grasp just as he’s clutching it the way I’m clinging to the satisfying feeling of letting the phrase “guilty on all counts” bounce around my mental landscape while a sad & mentally infirm geniusâ„¢ discovers new facial expressions…like…dawning realization that “they let you do it” is in fact not his superpower…whether because you are not in fact “a star”…or because you were never a big enough deal to be worth making an example of

    …but things are different when you put yourself in the oval office…presidents get away with stuff…sure…but…it’s different stuff…I mean…they call it the resolute desk…but they don’t mean it like people mean it when they announce a new year’s resolution

    …& I’m just going to stop right there…before I end up letting all those “guilty”s go to my head & start ranting about the state he’d be in if a real judge got near that case of his crazy-florida-lady is culsterfucking on his behalf…I’m hoping the post has butcher in a good mood so I don’t want to ruin that by starting an argument over whether or not the asshole would be wearing a jumpsuit that would clash with his nearly-matching skintone by now

    …but…I do actually feel better today than I did yesterday in a way that has a lot to do with not worrying they wouldn’t call that case that way?

    …&…obstruction & other forms of judicial fuckery notwithstanding…pretty sure this was widely considered to be the weakest case in the collection…& arguably includes a determination that electoral fraud is in fact a real thing…& that the guy who still has trouble admitting one didn’t go his way is guilty of conspiring to effect exactly such a fraud

    …feels like it might be time to buckle up for a wild ride…while trying to manage some expectations…because the shit that happens in the next…six weeks…potentially has a bearing on where marchan lands on sentencing?

    …interested to find out if suddenly all the shit he’s been saying for himself starts getting served up from surrogates or if he doubles down about shooting his mouth off the way he has about e jean carroll…& trying to gird myself for the polling I presume we’re going to be inundated with from “battleground states” to tell us that the sunk costs demographic are still deep in the hole & refusing all offers of assistance getting out

      …anyone got any sense for how it looks for the GOP if they run to split tickets & give joe the white house but try to deny him both houses of congress & a lock on as many at the state level as they can gerrymander?

      …just…trying to imagine what things look like if my wishful thinking about potential ex-presidential convictions line up like ducks in a row & meet the fate of the proverbial fish in the barrel…& it feels like that would require the rest of them cutting bait…which feels like it might turn into eat-yourself feeding frenzy of epic proportions…but…if some sort of party equivalent of the notorious “deep state” wound up the old machinery & got the thing on some tracks…would that be a viable strategy to preserve their “gains”, obstruct any actual gains for another four years during which hopefully nothing goes to hell in a handbasket…& then have another pop at enshrining an immortal lock on minority rule?

      …because it would be fucking handy if the US gave joe the white house & both houses & team (D) locked some of the machinery of democracy down instead…but…I might be used to disappointment at this point & struggling not to get giddy off 34 hits of “guilty”?

  6. So now the “invincible” Trump:

    • got a lower share of votes than Mitt Romney did in 2012 (look it up!)
    • presided over two of the GOP’s three worst election cycles since the 1970s
    • never won the popular vote
    • lost re-election
    • never hit 50% in support — before, during or after his presidency
    • convicted felon
    • jury-certified sexual assaulter
    • twice impeached
    • lost scores of election-related hearings (went 0 for around 70 if I recall)

    Like, I get that he’s a cult leader and 45% of America will vote for him no matter what because racism/two-party system/laziness/stupidity but we’re WAY past the point where we should consider this clown inevitable or unbeatable or even possessing intelligence distinguishable from an ape.

    Edit to add: Basically every time anyone has taken this moron on, he’s gotten his shit kicked in. You beat fascism by telling it “no” and then making it stick — same as dealing with a tantrum-throwing child. 

    • From a PR perspective, the whole point of diner safaris and “don’t prosecute him, it will only make his base love him more” was to blow a smokescreen over that long list.

      There’s a funny scene in Paper Moon where the conman Moses Pray cheats a cashier out of five dollars during the Depression with a combination of flattery and distraction as he first buys ribbons and then asks for change.

      I worked for a little while at a register, and it was drilled into you that you never let a customer mix transactions like that. What we’ve seen for the past eight years is a conman and his crew using the same mix of flattery and distraction in getting the diner safari crew to turn a minority into an imaginary majority.

      It’s easy to beat the con, but certain types like that cashier will fall for it every time.

  7. Susan Collins is evidently wringing her hands about how unfair it was for Trump to face charges because in the abstract it’s bad when a politician is convicted. Flutter flutter.

    It’s the best argument they can come up with – don’t look at the evidence or the law. Look at the outcome in the most abstract way possible, then work backwards to deny the evidence and the law, and the fact that the dude chose to do it.

    It’s not a slam dunk for the Democrats. But it’s a whole lot easier to just keep repeating phrases like “tax cheat” “off the books hush money” and “hiding an affair to cheat on an election just like he cheated on his wife” especially when they’ve been backed up by a lengthy trial.

    The basic rhetorical attack is that the law + facts beat vague abstractions. We’ll see if they get it. It would certainly help if the political reporters don’t just ask Republicans about the issue once and then drop it.

     

    • Let’s be very clear: The Democrats cannot and should not rely on the media to tell an accurate story about Trump. (Or any Republican.)

      The first words from the party were, of course, “eh, don’t think this is a big deal” because they’re blithering idiots, but I suspect we will actually see a lot of him being called a convicted felon as the year goes along, and that’s gonna work.

      Also “loser in court, loser at the ballot box, loser at casinos, loser with women, loser at bankruptcy” should be said approximately every 7 seconds during October.

      • Many years ago someone asked me, re: Trump, “How could you possibly lose money on liquor and gambling?”

        “It takes a lot of hard work, but it’s possible, obviously.”

      • There are definitely other avenues than the press that have to be hit -things like advertising, appearances on late night shows, and celebrity statements on social media. I thought it was funny that Robert DeNiro seems to have struck a nerve with the GOP.

        It takes a lot of message discipline to make non-press approaches work, but the advantage for the Democrats is “Convicted porn star hush money tax cheater” is a whole lot easier to push than “Lock her up but don’t lock him up because locking up is always wrong except when it’s right.”

    Some of those are a week old, but still. The courts are still grinding these out. I might have to send out a few “Happy Holidays in Jail” postcards this year.

    • …I saw the other day that fanone (the guy who was on duty that day but has since stopped being on the job & taken to be publicly not-a-fan of the jan 6 mob or their capo…has had SWATting troubles extended to his mother
