TV Doldrums [NOT 3/12/24]

Hi, friends!

We’re at that boring part of the year when it gets dark too early and cold, and even worse, most of the tv shows are on hiatus until February or whenever.

What do you do when your shows run out? Rewatch old favorites? Develop other hobbies? Sleep?

  1. what do you do when you dont watch tv?

    or football (i mean soccer)

    sooo…did you watch the game?… nope…fuck off

people think im unaproachable…coz i am

id like to have waterbottle chats…….but you know……give me something worth talking about?

idle chit chat about shit i didnt bother seeing?

yeah sorry not here for that

  2. i never know what is popular or airing during tv season unless i’m asked to download something. if i watch something that isn’t live it’s 99% of the time for nostalgia.

i’m always out of touch with everything.

this open thread was considerably easier to read.

  3. you know…i resent having to follow pop culture to have talking points with me co workers…

    so i dont

i dont give a fuck about who did what on celebrity island survivor or farmer seeks wife

nor do i care who won the fucking footie

sorry i dont care about all that shit….

    its an amazing conversation killer….

  4. Luckily between NBA games, my DVR stuff I haven’t watched & random movies, I’ll survive.  I just caught up on Cobra Kai too quickly & that was silly fun.

  5. 1. Downton Abbey

    2. The Crown

    3. Midsomer Murders

    4. Murder, She Wrote

    5. The Love Boat

    6. Are You Being Served?

    7. Keeping Up Appearances

    8. Blackadder

If someone in their 20s started watching all this today it would gently usher them into the care home 50 years from now.

  6. Tv is pretty much a wasteland to me these days because I hate reality TV.

There used to be something on… Reruns or some syndicated half crap show.

As long as there is something decent I can watch on Netflix or Prime then I can ignore cable TV.

    • I don’t know if it’s on Netflix up there, but here I’m getting ready to roll through the Japanese show Midnight Diner and the sequel Midnight Diner Tokyo Stories again. It’s worth checking out.

It’s set in a late night diner and the customers are all of the rejects of regular Japanese society. There are lots of good stories about artists and cops and criminals and gamblers and strippers and lonely businesspeople, and they all get together to eat good Japanese diner food made by the tolerant owner.
