Wait, I remember Sweet Valley High. I never watched it, but I remember that it existed at some point.
The first show I think of as the Show Nobody Remembers is “Manimal”, from 1983. It was a show about a guy who could turn into different types of animals, for some reason. It only lasted 8 episodes, which–in a time when a season was 26 episodes–should tell you how forgettable that show was.
I remember Sweet Valley High as the show that I only watched because Jason David Frank from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers was a recurring character on it. Because apparently Saban’s approach to every show they created at that time was “Put the dude who played Tommy on it”.
Fun fact: The show that became “VR Troopers” (another show that you probably haven’t heard of if you’re not of a certain age started off life as a pilot show specifically for Jason David Frank, who was so popular from his run of Power Rangers. It was called “Cybertron”, because apparently Saban wasn’t afraid of copyright infringement.
I’ve never heard of any of these.
Didn’t it eventually become “Two Guys and a Girl?”
“Hanging With Mr. Rhodes” (I think that was what it was called?). Anyway, we went to see “Mr. Rhodes” at the Improv shortly after the show was cancelled. He wasn’t great.
“Millennium”
“Homicide” was excellent but only me and 6 other people watched it because it was on Friday nights. Saw Richard Belzer at the Improv, too, during his initial run as Detective Munch. He wasn’t great, either.
Do you mean “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper”?
No, I guess it was just “Mr. Rhodes.” I forgot about Mr. Cooper. Hence the title of your article.
I heard hanging w/ Mr. Rhodes just the other day…
Just assuming you were talking about this.
That show I loved!
“Didn’t it eventually become “Two Guys and a Girl?””
Iirc, Yes.
I watched for a while, too, in the original form, but was a theater major at the time, so when rehearsals started, lost track of it, and never managed to catch back up.
I *did* like what I saw of it, though!
I remember Two Guys/Girl and I’ve been meaning to rewatch So Weird.
I have no feelings for the show, but “Teen Angel” was on the same block as Boy Meets World. Then there’s 100 Good Deeds of Eddy McDowd, which I remember I liked. It’s a movie but Suisie Q was another obscure thing I remember occasionally.
In hindsight, the 90s and 00s were kind of obsessed with dead teens coming back to life to haunt people but then their goals are fulfilled and they go into the light. I wonder if it was a way to have Christian undertones?
100 Good Deeds of Eddy McDowd! I remember that one! Super vaguely.
And I remember Susie Q because Amy Jo Johnson was on it, and she was the Pink Ranger. (I remember a lot of appearances former Power Rangers have made on actual TV.) Teen Angel is one of those shows that I think I should remember because TGIF on ABC was my jam, but I have literally zero recollection of it.
That’s the only one I remember – Two Guys and a Girl. Wasn’t that Ryan Reynolds?
Yes.
I can honestly say the same, I never watched any of these shows or knew they existed.
…turns out I do remember Flash Forward…although I maybe read it before it was a show?
One that I got into while doing my Early Childhood AA degrees a few years ago, which was syndicated… either on ION, or the local ABC affiliate’s LATE-night weekend programming is Sanctuary– https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_(TV_series)
It’s a pretty classic Canadian show, in that it’s VERY solidly acted, with lots of folks who I’ve ended up recognizing in other shows since… cheesy-fun SciFi, and decent-but not spectacular Special effects.
It was a good show to do homework to, and keep me awake and interested.😉
And another that I KNOW was on ION, which was also really likeable & Canadian (and which *also* starred the Pink Power Ranger–Amy Jo Johnson😁) was Flashpoint:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashpoint_(TV_series)
When I started watching that one, the only actor I recognized was “Elliot from ‘Just Shoot Me'”–Enrico Colantoni, but like Sanctuary, I’ve now seen most of the cast in other shows i’ve liked.
Both are more ’00’s than ’90’s shows, but both were fun, with really likeable casts & characters.
Amy Jo Johnson was also in the VH1 original movie “Sweetwater” about a fictional band that played Woodstock.
Amy probably has the best post-Power Rangers body of work of anyone who’s ever appeared on that show.
Homeboys from Outer Space?
The only reason I remember that, uh, classic is that it and the Joey Lawrence Show replaced Babylon 5 on the local TV station for reasons unknown. I remember because I read the TV station got bombarded with angry faxes and emails from raging SF nerds pissed they stopped showing B5 after the mid season climax/cliffhanger (I was upset too but not enough to send a fax screaming “you suck”)
Maybe I should have stuck to watching DS9 because the same plot showed up a month later anyway.
More mid-90’s, but did anybody else love “American Gothic?” I was so pissed when they offed it.
…if we’re allowed more recent stuff I was enjoying Counterpart a whole bunch?
Early ’90s: The Hat Squad.
Forgotten for a reason.
Yeah I watched Student Bodies. They have the episodes on YT not that I watched the episodes or anything.
