…two for the show [DOT 17/3/20]

…so…I think we know how the news is looking

Dow suffers biggest-ever points loss as FTSE 100 hits eight-year low

…it’s hard for even the most determined jackass to ignore that kind of shit

Trump says coronavirus upheaval could last beyond August

…not that he isn’t trying so hard you think something might hemorrhage any moment…or prolapse…it’s always a toss up which seems most likely once those jowls really lather up…it’s probably that “pent up demand” he keeps trying to sell…wonder why that could be?

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/12/trump-has-lost-the-majority-of-his-stock-market-gains-amid-equity-rout.html

…so…since the new news is such a shitshow why not take a moment to think of some shitshows past that are still running before any more of them get taken off the air

…yup…that’s right…on the books for April 6th…maybe gonna be delayed for…you know…covid-19…until…”Barred”

…in the same week he started giving it out that in terms of pardons, who could be in like Flynn?

when they say “bullshit walks” I don’t think this is what they had in mind…

…so…since apparently that’s the sort of thing that might happen while we’re all functionally quarantined…here, in no particular order, are some fun reminders of just how not new some of the stuff that’s likely to be cropping back up in the news soonish…unless they punt the DeutscheBank case, too

  1. SPROTS!

Had 590 The Fan on for a few minutes and they have stooped to a segment for people to call in and bitch about teams or players they hate. I’ve never been the type to call in to sports radio for obvious reasons, but maybe some of us can have some fun here. Or maybe at least I can:

Matt Cooke who can literally fuck off (and go to jail)

    Don Cherry

    Derek Jeter

    Michael Irvin

    Dan Snyder

    Kevin Lowe

    Vontaze Burfict

    Neymar

Whatever the fuck Jimmy Johnson has going on with his mouth that shouldn’t even be allowed on tv

Anyone who thinks Florida should have two fucking hockey teams

    Both Florida hockey teams

Thanks. I feel like a loser who just called into sports radio, but I feel better now.

    • TAWMY FAHCKIN’ BRADY.

Apparently he Tweeted(?) out an ambiguous goodbye to Patriots fans. Once he’s gone and they come down to earth, not one will ever claim to have been a Patriots fan:
      FAHCK THOSE GUYS, GO BROONZ!

    • You forgot the Dallas hockey team.

Also, one bit of advice for the entire NBA, NEVER let Kevin McHale (McFail) anywhere *near* your basketball operations.

That is all, and soon the Vikings will return to their regularly scheduled bumblings.

  2. We now have 25 confirmed cases in the state, 7 in my city. Yesterday our governor called for day care centers to close. It’s probably necessary but what will people do who can’t work from home? I’m not sure if he’s including our YMCAs which have stopped all classes and gym activity and instead are caring for the children of health care workers. 50% of state employees will be working from home, and they are hoping to transition even more to telecommuting in the coming weeks. Our primary has been delayed until June, looks like I’m voting for Joe Biden. *sigh*
I’m going to take Fanny to the dog park today, she hasn’t been there in almost a week because of her sprained tail. I have no idea if people will be there or not. I don’t see anyone out and about in my neighborhood. And while I don’t live downtown I do live in the city, there are normally people walking, running, and biking.

Don’t worry, trump is going to take care of his people. Not us silly, the rich!

And privately Moscow Mitch is starting to think his boy may not win in Nov and is scrambling to hold on to the courts.

    • In Canada, they have made it so any parent who stays home with their children cannot lose their jobs for skipping work. In the US people who don’t believe in science are at the helm and I am very much more worried for my American friends than I am my fellow Canadians.

      • I’m also worried about our undocumented friends and neighbors who might not be able to take advantage of the limited protections and resources being offered.

    • You know, whoever is in charge of such things ought to be planning right now for a massive absentee vote, or even a total one, before Doofus starts making noise about delaying the general election.

(As a political science major, I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t remember who is “in charge of such things.”)

      • Absolutely! It’s about time we go to vote by mail everywhere anyway.

      • “As a political science major, I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t remember who is “in charge of such things.””
I dunno about other states, but here in MN, that person is our Secretary of State

I *only* know this, because a few years ago, for a few years, ours was Mary Kiffmeyer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Kiffmeyer)
She was TERRIBLE,and was one of those R’s hellbent on trying to restrict people’s access to the vote, amongst other things (I used to live in Wright county,so I was WELL aware of her shitty & racist leanings!).

Since then,we’ve had D-side S.o.S.’s, and they’ve been the exact opposite of her–committed to keeping Same-Day registration a thing here, and keeping the voting rolls large and as accurate as humanly possible.

  3. I can’t even…

    • The media should start referring to it as the trump virus.

My daughter talked to a friend in WV a couple of days ago. She said a bad bout of flu spread through her area, Charleston/Huntington, the most populated region in the state, in early February. A couple people she knows went to the doctor hoping to receive Tamiflu but were told they tested negative for influenza. She theorizes that they’ve already had Covid 19 and didn’t even know it. I know this is all anecdotal but it makes sense.

Another possibility is that even the coronavirus doesn’t want to live in West Virginia.

  4. I know Trump may very well be right about the impacts from the virus lasting several months, but also…I don’t really listen to anything he says anyway so I’ll let someone else tell me what they estimate for that.

Even now, this major lockdown and economic hellscape could be mitigated if they’d JUST FUCKING TEST PEOPLE. I keep seeing rumors and shit that the testing problems have been about getting companies close to Trump paid, but I haven’t been able to verify.

Apparently New Orleans has the 2nd highest rate of COVID per capita right now. I’m completely unsurprised but it sucks nevertheless. I think we are about a day away from San Francisco’s total lockdown.

  5. The FDA has cleared states to do their own testing now, and are allowing companies to release tests without going through the full FDA process. I hope this will make testing easier for everyone. It’s also an indication the trump is feeling the heat, FINALLY!
