Sorry guys, you’re stuck with slacker Meg TWO days in a row.
I know you were looking forward to a bunch of links and pithy turns of phrase from Rip; instead you’ve got me and my lazy tweets.
Help me out below the line gang and we’ll get through this Tuesday together.
This is my shocked face :/

…even that marc thiessen asshole didn’t manage to come to his defense this time
…seriously, what is it with some people just not being able to learn a fucking lesson when shit doesn’t go their way?
I posted 2 daily show clips… did the server hide them?
also, I posted a nyt quote…
i can not see them, so I think so.
The VR Furries at Four Seasons Total Landscaping is the best. If I had any technical skills whatsoever I’d photoshop in da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” Why not? Christ was not stuffy, He was a man of the people, and would have been perfectly content in a suburban Philadelphia parking lot. Maybe he would have wandered over to the sex shop and communed with/counseled the patrons and staff, or maybe even visit the crematorium and raise one or two from the dead.
That Thanksgiving map graphic is so depressing. Rolls, stuffing, mashed potatoes. I love Thanksgiving, it is my favorite holiday, but when I host I always go off-script. Hooray for the Great State of Indiana: I thought I was the only one who served devil’s eggs at Thanksgiving, but I serve them as an appetizer, not a side. It’s interesting that AZ, NM, and TX are so fond of green bean casserole, as are states in the Upper Midwest. I can only assume that the recipes are quite different. One thing I do make is stuffing, even when I don’t serve a turkey, and I think I might make versions that would appeal to those stuffing aficionados in MA and NY: One version uses a lot of cranberries, and the other apples.
Set an extra plate. I’m coming to your house for Thanksgiving. Love me some deviled eggs.
I am so into deviled eggs that I have a ceramic platter in the shape of a chicken with depressions in it to hold the egg halves upright. It is from the 1960s and was given to me by a friend.
I’m in Georgia – we too, always have deviled eggs at Thanksgiving. I have never once had mac n cheese at a thanksgiving dinner.
Here in “the county” there are additional traditional sides, such as baked corn pudding made with Copes Dried Corn (actually delicious); the green bean casserole version made with frozen green beans, Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup, and Durkee canned fried onions (edible); and pineapple stuffing made with Little Debbie white bread, canned crushed sweetened pineapple, and extra sugar (served in a circle of Hell). I abdicated familial responsibility for Thanksgiving some years ago, and we have met friends at a restaurant instead. This year we will dine at home, there will be only two or four of us, and I will be cooking heart healthy :).
So no deviled eggs! There are approximately 200,000 ways to make them (the filling I mean.) I should do a FYCE post on that.
Yes please, Cousin M – that is a grand idea!
We always had deviled eggs at Thanksgiving! (also as an appetizer – it was like the thing you always went in and ate while they were making the rest of the food). Not to make this TOO dramatic, but we had a family recipe for deviled eggs and literally one of my top five bummers about being estranged from my parents is that I will never get that dang deviled egg recipe now lol
…it might not be the recipe but I wager cousin matthew’s would be a better than fair substitute & he’s quite good about sharing?
Can a sibling smuggle it to you? I love deviled eggs, I think I’ll make some for lunch!
If in doubt, a bit of dried mustard spice is a good addition to a deviled egg recipe.
They’re pretty simple to make. Just boil four eggs, slice them in half, cut the yolks out and place in a bowl. Then mix the yolks with a couple tablespoons of mayo, about a teaspoon of mustard, and salt and pepper to taste. Then spoon the filling back into the eggs and chill. If you want to get fancy, sprinkle some paprika on top.
Her family probably has a secret ingredient to their recipe that sets it apart. There are a lot of variations. I use half Mayo half pain yogurt. It’s a bit tangier than all Mayo.
As long as their aren’t any goddamned pickles in there. That’s a crime against humanity.
I completely agree!
Oh, my friend, that only scratches the surface. I’m working on a FYCE post as we speak. You’re making “The Traditional.”
I can’t wait!
We just had the discussion last week during my team meeting at work on deviled eggs and if they are a Thanksgiving dish or not. I and my boss are firmly in the YES column. We are both from TN though, so maybe it’s a southern thing?
Definitely not a TN thing. I grew up in WI and we always had deviled eggs as the appetizer.
I’m super disappointed in NM. The favorite side should be more along the lines of chile rellenos, or pintos.
LOL @myself for devil’s eggs. WordPress has a particularly aggressive spellcheck feature that never goes your way.
“Maybe he would have wandered over to the sex shop and communed with/counseled the patrons and staff” — like hey you want the one with the 12 motor settings and not the 3, treat yo’self!
Lol ew.
Also, hello Brightersideoflife! Nice to see you.
Hi MegMegMcGee!!
What the hell is McConnell thinking? He’s not stupid. He knows damned well that barring SCOTUS throwing the entire rule of law out the window (which is not out of the question), Biden is going to be the next President. What is the upside for him to enable Trump’s bullshit? Sure, he’s not saying anything about the dumb ass conspiracy theories, but that’s nothing compared to the fact that he’s essentially backing Trump. What the fuck for?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-republicans-election-challenges/2020/11/09/49e2c238-22c4-11eb-952e-0c475972cfc0_story.html
Maybe so he doesn’t have to put up with Trump and his cultists’ lunacy for the next 10 weeks? Once Trump is out the door it’ll be like this never happened and he’ll resume his relationship with Biden, with whom he served in the Senate for 90 years or however long it was.
That’s probably it. Who wants fucking MAGAs demonstrating outside your offices for the next two months? Again, invalidating the presidential result casts doubt on downticket Republican victories.
Shit like this concerns me more:
https://floridapolitics.com/archives/381741-ron-desantis-floats-faithless-elector-plan-for-michigan-pennsylvania
I know I’ve said this before, but I kinda thought they’d resolved this last time around, when people floated the idea of electors voting for a Republican other than Trump.
Yeah, SCOTUS already ruled on this–unanimously, I might add. So, DeSantis can go piss up a rope.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiafalo_v._Washington
Sounds reasonable. Let’s hope that’s it.
Another prominent theory is that Republicans know the “fraudulent election” is a nonstarter but they want to keep the Trump base riled up through the Georgia runoffs and possibly into the 2022 elections. That seems cynical enough to be completely plausible.
According to Vanity Fair, this seems to be part of the justification–just placating Trump until he leaves. According to a “top Republican official”:
Of course, being the obtuse piece of shit this Republican is, he’s forgetting that the “downside” is riling up half the country in being totally convinced that Biden isn’t the legitimate President. And, unlike right wing fever dreams of “leftist civil wars”, these fuckers will actually use all those fucking guns they’ve got stacked in their basements.
@butcherbakertoiletrymaker
I mean he *technically* is within his rights to do a bunch of insane lawsuits. If anything, it keeps him busy and distracted from trying to president too hard these last few weeks. Less for Biden to undo.
According to Heather Cox Richardson, the suits are getting thrown out because they are not even bothering to file the right forms or fill them out properly, etc., which could mean two things: They are really bad at lawyering, or this is all show and bluster to keep the minions riled up.
I started to argue that nobody could be that bad at lawyering, and then I thought about Rudy Giuliani standing at Four Seasons Total Landscaping accompanied by a convicted sex offender.
I love this tweet by PA Lt. Governor Fetterman:
I love PA’s beefy Lt. Gov!
I do too! He and his family live an old car dealership, and it’s amazing.
ooh, that is cool! My man needs lots of space, he’s a large boi!
Who are these cretins that think green bean casserole is the best side? No wonder this country is so fucked up!
I mentioned above that what’s served in AZ, NM, and TX is probably different than what’s served in the Upper Midwest. Indulging in gross stereotypes, I’m guessing that the Upper Midwest version is the very all-American processed, from-the-can fried onions/cream of mushroom soup/green beans combo. I wonder what they do in the southwest? Peppers and chiles I bet. A cheesy sauce, like a queso. I’ve made the “All-American Version” and been served it many times and it’s not bad, depending on the green beans and how you prep them.
I wanted to say this about mac and cheese but I’ve been afraid to look foolish…is that an American thing? Or even a real thing?
…like the “Kraft Dinner” boxed kind?
When I was growing up my mom on Thanksgiving never once said, “I have to get up first thing in the morning to pour noodles and cheese powder out of a box or I won’t have time to cook the turkey.”
Edit: I have to relate turkey dinners to my childhood due to my diet ever since.
I don’t think anyone is making Kraft Mac and Cheese for Thanksgiving, lol. Southerners take their mac and cheese seriously.
So I went ahead with going out of my way to make myself look foolish, in other words. lol
I mean, you could read the site…
Forgive me for assuming your standards were higher than the rest of America’s.
Sorry?
You never look foolish!
I will throw my hat in the ring and be foolish with you. I am opening myself up for mockery as of right now, reading this thread.
How am I an adult and I never heard of people eating deviled eggs for Thanksgiving?! Like, I’m having a Twilight Zone moment here. That’s a spring & summer picnic food, y’all!
I hate green bean casserole and that my state pick? Yuck. Give me stuffing (rather, dressing, for it must be baked separately) or cranberry sauce every time.
Thank you! The only reason I didn’t mention the deviled eggs thing is because I saw Cousin Matthew mention it as a thing and am familiar with their food experience enough not to question them.
No. No no no no. You can make Mac ‘n cheese many different ways. You start with elbow macaroni but then with the cheese itself you have several possibilities. Then, you can add stuff to it, I add bacon to mine, you can add chiles, pepper flakes, paprika (I think there’s a Hungarian term for this), all kinds of things.
I’m am gob-smacked that Idaho is in that camp? You know, Famous Potatoes?
I also understand why Trump & friends are so mad. You rig an election & still lose? Something definitely doesn’t smell right.
Yeah if the dems were so good at rigging elections, they’d have taken the senate, too! 😀
Nice to see you brighter!
Hi Hannibal! I’m still learning about comments and notifications and whatnot here, but it’s nice to have a new home!
You’ll get the hang of it. It’s a good group of people and everyone’s excited to have you all here. 😊
That Thanksgiving tweet caused a lot of consternation in my friend group’s chat thread. Huge rolls/no rolls debate, deviled eggs debate, and the thing no one’s talking about — why is a SIDE SALAD Maine’s #1 pick?!
…I can only speak for myself on this…but I’m not talking about the side salad idea because I refuse to dignify it with a response?
You have to have dinner rolls on Thanksgiving. The more carbs the better.
Hello @automaticdoor!
Hello! Happy to have a new refuge 🙂
I think it would be absolutely hilarious if SCOTUS agreed to retain the ACA using the justification that Congress clearly wanted the whole law to stay intact by removing the penalty. These fucking Republican shitbags thought they were so clever in removing the penalty, and now it may turn out to be the justification SCOTUS uses to uphold the law for a third time. Irony, assholes.
That’s speaking as someone who has never liked this Republican-drafted healthcare law and who will support single payer until the day I die.
welp…seems me mum has figured out how to send gifs in whatsapp now as she just sent me this

Dafuq? Wyoming and Arkansas think gravy is a goddamn side?
Maybe they use smoothie straws to drink it?
Hi everyone, another lost soul from GroupThink, wondering why everything looks so different and strange 🙂
…hello/welcome/nice to see you & all that sort of thing
…it’s possible that we are indeed as strange as we appear but we’d like to think you’re at least in good company?
Hello Springboard, welcome to Deadsplinter.
Great tweet:
…&…it’s still funny…there’s a good chance it may never stop being funny…like a perpetual notion, if you will
I laugh every time.
I HOWLED.
Unfortunately no one on my zooms would get it because I am TOO ONLINE and they are NOT.
At first I was going to be pissypants that Missouri’s side dish was rolls.
But then I thought about it, and you know, it’s pretty accurate. We don’t typically have rolls at meals and Thanksgiving you have ALL THE SIDES. I remember the big thing at my grandparent’s house on Thanksgiving and Christmas being the aunt who made poppyseed rolls.
Also, we have mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans often enough that it’s not exactly special.
Dinner rolls were fancy when I was growing up, reserved for holiday meals. Plus bread is damn good.
Right?! Someone had to buy the frozen pack of rolls and bake them in addition to everything else in the meal!
Or get the crescent rolls and bake those after adding eggwash and poppyseeds.
My mother burned the rolls every year. What a disappointment.
Did the oven heat unevenly? Our old-ass oven with the uneven heating led to many a ruined items when I was a kiddo.
I don’t think so. My mother just wasn’t a very good cook, lol.
