Twofer Tuesday [DOT 10/11/20]

Sorry guys, you’re stuck with slacker Meg TWO days in a row.

I know you were looking forward to a bunch of links and pithy turns of phrase from Rip; instead you’ve got me and my lazy tweets.

Help me out below the line gang and we’ll get through this Tuesday together.

This is my shocked face :/

  1. The VR Furries at Four Seasons Total Landscaping is the best. If I had any technical skills whatsoever I’d photoshop in da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” Why not? Christ was not stuffy, He was a man of the people, and would have been perfectly content in a suburban Philadelphia parking lot. Maybe he would have wandered over to the sex shop and communed with/counseled the patrons and staff, or maybe even visit the crematorium and raise one or two from the dead.

That Thanksgiving map graphic is so depressing. Rolls, stuffing, mashed potatoes. I love Thanksgiving, it is my favorite holiday, but when I host I always go off-script. Hooray for the Great State of Indiana: I thought I was the only one who served devil’s eggs at Thanksgiving, but I serve them as an appetizer, not a side. It’s interesting that AZ, NM, and TX are so fond of green bean casserole, as are states in the Upper Midwest. I can only assume that the recipes are quite different. One thing I do make is stuffing, even when I don’t serve a turkey, and I think I might make versions that would appeal to those stuffing aficionados in MA and NY: One version uses a lot of cranberries, and the other apples.

  2. What the hell is McConnell thinking?  He’s not stupid.  He knows damned well that barring SCOTUS throwing the entire rule of law out the window (which is not out of the question), Biden is going to be the next President.  What is the upside for him to enable Trump’s bullshit?  Sure, he’s not saying anything about the dumb ass conspiracy theories, but that’s nothing compared to the fact that he’s essentially backing Trump.  What the fuck for?

  3. I love this tweet by PA Lt. Governor Fetterman:

    • I mentioned above that what’s served in AZ, NM, and TX is probably different than what’s served in the Upper Midwest. Indulging in gross stereotypes, I’m guessing that the Upper Midwest version is the very all-American processed, from-the-can fried onions/cream of mushroom soup/green beans combo. I wonder what they do in the southwest? Peppers and chiles I bet. A cheesy sauce, like a queso. I’ve made the “All-American Version” and been served it many times and it’s not bad, depending on the green beans and how you prep them.

    • I wanted to say this about mac and cheese but I’ve been afraid to look foolish…is that an American thing? Or even a real thing?

…like the “Kraft Dinner” boxed kind?

When I was growing up my mom on Thanksgiving never once said, “I have to get up first thing in the morning to pour noodles and cheese powder out of a box or I won’t have time to cook the turkey.”

Edit: I have to relate turkey dinners to my childhood due to my diet ever since.

  4. That Thanksgiving tweet caused a lot of consternation in my friend group’s chat thread. Huge rolls/no rolls debate, deviled eggs debate, and the thing no one’s talking about — why is a SIDE SALAD Maine’s #1 pick?!

    • I think it would be absolutely hilarious if SCOTUS agreed to retain the ACA using the justification that Congress clearly wanted the whole law to stay intact by removing the penalty.  These fucking Republican shitbags thought they were so clever in removing the penalty, and now it may turn out to be the justification SCOTUS uses to uphold the law for a third time.  Irony, assholes.
That’s speaking as someone who has never liked this Republican-drafted healthcare law and who will support single payer until the day I die.

  5. welp…seems me mum has figured out how to send gifs in whatsapp now as she just sent me this
little unexpected as mumchete does not text… mumchete calls

  6. in unrelated news….it seems youtube has my number now…as this turned up in my recs

lately my youtube recs have been almost as good as that wierd corner of youtube you used to get to in just a couple clicks from any video
maybe theres hope for this algorythm yet

  7. At first I was going to be pissypants that Missouri’s side dish was rolls.
But then I thought about it, and you know, it’s pretty accurate. We don’t typically have rolls at meals and Thanksgiving you have ALL THE SIDES. I remember the big thing at my grandparent’s house on Thanksgiving and Christmas being the aunt who made poppyseed rolls.
Also, we have mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans often enough that it’s not exactly special.
