Hi, friends! How has your weather been lately?
We’ve had a heatwave this week, like much of the country. Today it’s that kind of weird hot weather where you’re like hmm pop-up thunderstorms could happen at any time.
In fact, I didn’t have time to write a better NOT tonight because I got home and went “oh fuck my garden” and proceeded to check what can be harvested today since if we do get a thunderstorm with any gusty winds, I’d prefer to already have that stuff picked so there’s less weight on the plants. After waiting so long for my giant marconi peppers to be available (I’ve been eating them for about 3 weeks now, they will keep going until October barring some accident), I’d be sad as fuck if a gusty wind broke a heavy stalk.
So anyways, what’s new with your weather? You hanging in there?
It ain’t the heat, it’s the humidity. Blah.
My wife was on the local news introducing a dog that’s up for adoption and they did the shoot outside, and she described being dripping with sweat, although it didn’t show when we just watched on the broadcast.

Glad she didn’t end up looking like a swamp monster on tv from the perspiration.
Our weather has been super schizophrenic. Today was cold & clear fall weather 40’s-60’s but should be in 80’s by weekend. The last few days have been overcast or rain & a week ago we had the strongest 5min micro squall I have ever seen. It rained so hard with 40mph gusts that caught everyone by surprise. Some paddle boarders near me were swept out to sea & had to be rescued by the ferry & a kayaker is still missing.
Holy shit! I hope they find the kayaker safe and sound.

No life jacket, oof. I definitely wouldn’t trust myself without one.
Yeah, not a good move. I will admit the law only states you need to have one but not wear one but around here I always wear it. At Lake Tahoe or Hawaii, I don’t always if I am close to shore. In fact, in Hawaii it could be worst with a life jacket if you can’t get under waves if you have to bail. Water is too cold around here & people that have no water skills are way too overconfident in their skills or just stupid.
I’ve kayaked in bays where the water is never more than 4-5 feet deep 200 yards from shore and I could see skipping one, although I wouldn’t. I’d never know what chop, headwinds and exhaustion would do to me.
Oscillating between hot/humid and seasonal/slightly muggy.
Hoping the air dries up a little.
Does Lake Ontario make it extra muggy in summer? I’m familiar with the Great Lakes making winters worse with lake effects, but does it make summer worse, too? Or is that a new feature unlocked with global warming?

On one of my trips to Chicago I stayed with a friend of mine who didn’t have A/C. This was in August. It was like all of Lake Michigan evaporated and entered the atmosphere. 300% humidity at least. But actually what we did was go to Lake Michigan every day (why I packed a bathing suit I don’t know*) and hung out in the lake for a couple of hours.
As I recall we drove to whatever part of Lake Michigan we went to and parking was both free and plentiful. Chicago has lots to recommend it, although this was many years ago.
*I have been to San Francisco more times than I can count. Occasionally they get freak heat waves so I used to go to Baker Beach, near the Golden Gate Bridge. Baker Beach is a nude beach and since this is SF there are plenty of gay men cavorting about. I never packed a bathing suit for those trips. But nor did I cavort. I stayed with my college roommate and we went together. Since we shared a tiny bathroom we knew each other’s anatomy pretty thoroughly so we had no hesitancy about stripping off and adjourning to our beach towels.

Hot out here, and getting hotter this weekend. Summer can end any old time now, as far as I care.
