Black voters stick with Joe because they feel like Joe is a safer bet and that white people won’t lose their minds if Joe is the nominee. If you stick your neck out for a Bernie or a Warren (who are making big promises to a community that has been particularly screwed over by white politicians making big problems), it could get chopped off. Pete is gay and Amy is a woman and black folks figure white people won’t vote for them straight up. That leaves Joe, Bloomberg and Steyer as mediocre white dudes who won’t offend the delicate white sensibilities of some moronic “swing voter”, and Joe is the one they’re most familiar with. (Which also explains why Steyer and Bloomberg were able to eat into some of Joe’s lead.)

Honestly, I think if Bernie told the black community straight up that yeah, it would cost them money in the form of taxes but that their health care needs would be addressed (I mean Bernie says taxes might go up but he doesn’t elaborate because…well…white people hate the concept of taxes even if they like most of the shit they pay for and brag about paying their taxes whenever it’s convenient to something they don’t want the country to have), he’d gain more transaction. Saying health care is “free” is a red flag to a community as used and abused as black Democratic voters are.
