  1. The Melvins –  Honey Bucket

    I always thought of them as hardcore punk but they get play on a couple of the metal shows on our local college radio station. Thoughts?

     

    • They usually get lumped in with grunge.  Sam Dunn (“Metal Evolution”- great series if you get a chance to watch it) considers grunge a subgenre of metal, but lot of others think grunge was more punk than metal.  I got a distinct early- James Hetfield vibe as soon as the guy started singing.

      • I can hear Hetfield now that you mention it. They worked with Jello Biafra, that’s probably why they were so firmly fixed in my mind as hardcore.  I’m going to look for Metal Evolution, like I said, this is all pretty new to me, and I’m enjoying learning more about metal.
