Hi, friends!

How is your week going? Winding down for the weekend?

Do you have any weekend plans? I’m helping my mom paint a room and hopefully going to a craft fair.

  1. When you are a lowly freelance scrivener like me you come to dread the weekends, because that is when your corporate contacts tend to dump as much work as possible and go off to enjoy paid vacations and their own work-free weekends. But earn my daily crust I must, so no job too large or too small, no deadline too infeasible. I’m lucky in that I love this work and I’ve known all my handlers for years, decades even, so they appreciate the good work that I do.

This life has its appeal. Today I did nothing except work on my book, a multigenerational saga about a wealthy New York family, with Dawn Powell as my inspiration. It’s a comedy of manners (with some tragedy thrown in) but me, being me, can’t stop adding more and more and more…

We’ll see if I ever finish this damn thing. One thing I know I have to do is hire a copyeditor. I’ve gotten the family down right, but their ages are a little slippery, and then there are tons of servants. And then I thought, “Wait a minute, Pearl Harbor would have happened and WWII would have broken out…” So much for me thinking I was done with the past half and could move on into Futurism.

Oh well. It’s a happy, wholesome hobby.

  2. We are getting a live Xmas tree on Saturday to benefit salmon restoration & doing a “UK style” Xmas get together w/ our neighbors.  Have Brits across the street & down the hill from us.  Should be fun, we always have lots of wine & fun w/ these couples.

    • My daughter’s orchestra did that every year in high school.  They always put on a good show.  I don’t think she has picked up her violin since high school.

    • The dummies who are throwing these kinds of monkey wrenches refuse to listen to the people who tell them how interconnected the healthcare systems are. They think it’s like the ice cream business where you can just dump more marshmallows in the rocky road or shave 1/2 ounce from an ice cream sandwich and nobody will complain. But these health care dolts are messing with people’s lives.

      • According to the idiot with an MBA I know (reluctantly) that’s how they think because all industries are the same and require the same low cost high return/bonus thinking that fucked up a lot of companies.

He should know as he’s pretty much been blackballed From working in most industries in Canada due to his terrible personality.

  3. supposed to pick up a tree this weekend….weather permitting

back to back storms here say thats a solid maybe tho….as carrying a tree home in high winds is pretty likely to end up with me in a canal

and whilst the water is perfectly safe to swim in….this is not the time of year i want to do so
