Hi, friends! What’s planned for this weekend?
I harvested half my radishes today. That would be 2 of them. I planted more, but it looks like the caterpillars got to them before the cardinals got to the caterpillars.
Tomorrow is farmer’s market and then hanging out with a friend for dinner. I think will be a lot of wine involved. Her ex is being a douche and has custody this weekend and wouldn’t swap weekends, despite it being Mother’s Day. I didn’t want her sitting around by herself so we’re going to probably do something.
I need to do a little more planting, but I think I need to pick up a few more plant cages for that first. Last year I mistakenly thought I could use a few stakes and then it was apparent that my peppers needed a cage more than a few stakes, might as well get them caged while they’re lil plants still.
And then Sunday dinner with the parents to celebrate Mother’s Day.
This weekend will be much the same as last and next: working on garden stuff and cooking. Breaking out the cold frame this weekend to get some of the plants ready to go in the ground at the end of the month.
You grow swiss chard, right? I got some in my MM box, I was going to try this recipe where you saute it with garlic and anchovies. Have you tried it?
Haven’t tried it with anchovies, but when you make it, write it up for FYCE:)
Reads comment: Ya, Ellie!
Looks at avatar: wait a second, that’s Butcher!
Today I got my front porch and walk swept, picked up trash in the front yard and started cleaning around my rhody. I have a Sea Foam rose in the front that needs tending so I want to get to that. I also noticed the climbing hydrangea on the side of the porch is a bit out of control so I started trimming that back. That’s a really nice flowering climber for the north side of a house.
Still have the sleeves of a black sweater to knit but have to do it in the daylight.
Working OT.
Going to drop off some of my dying friend’s favorite junk foods at the Palliative Care Centre after work. I can’t actually visit him thanks to the 3rd CoVID wave. Someone wondered why don’t I use one of the exploitative delivery services, but I’d rather do this one myself.
Then a zoom call with other friends.
Then Sunday mother’s day dinner.
You know what? I think if you’re able to get the folks at the PCC to let your friend know that you dropped it off personally, that will mean a whole lot more to him than just having some underpaid gig worker schlep it for you.
Sorry for your friend…
welp…its 4 am and i just rolled out of bed with a killer headache
sooo…my original plan of sleeping for 3 days over the next 48 hours has already failed
new plan is wait for the pain killers to kick in

anyways…having to open the coffee jar left handed is noying
NOYING!
i think ill revise my lack of plans to add chocolate…that might help
Tomorrow morning I teach a tai chi class in town, then I’ll be doing some bush-hogging here on the farm (which surprisingly isn’t a sexual thing). The Mrs will be preparing her final exam on Sunday for her differential equations class. Grades have to be in on Wednesday and then we drive up to NYC for a wedding. Looking forward to seeing our daughter at the wedding who we haven’t seen in person for over a year. And most important, I’ll be preparing my Wednesday DUAN. I should also get a haircut at some point because I’m starting to look like Professor Irwin Corey. Too many do-it-yourself haircuts in a row.
I’ve thought about taking tai chi. I trust you would recommend? Anything to look for in an instructor?
The best advice I ever got about finding a tai chi instructor is that if you walk in and he’s got trophies on the wall, walk straight out. Find someone who focuses on tai chi and Chinese martial arts, rather than karate, Tae Kwon Do or other types. No yoga instructors, pilates teachers, or chiropractors who also teach tai chi. Look for generosity of spirit and kindness. Also, ask around locally. Talk to people who study tai chi.
