Hope everyone had a great week. My week off went way too fast. Dreading the 6ish hour drive tomorrow. Dealing with the 80+ crowd is no joke. I’m exhausted.

  1. I wondered if the SOTU response was going to be another predictable Republican train wreck. So far the only reactions I’d heard were from her actual words so at first it seemed like it wasn’t the disaster it turned out to be. The kitchen setting alone tells you everything you need to know about the Republican Party: ladies, you may rise to high elected office, but we’d still very much prefer you stayed in the kitchen making our meals and bringing us beers when we come home from work.

    The ex-president’s bond was guaranteed by the Federal Insurance Company — a New York-based subsidiary of the company Chubb Group LLC, which is headquartered in Switzerland. In 2018, Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg served on a trade advisory committee in the Trump White House. The Washington Post reported that “it was not clear from court records what collateral Trump presented to obtain the bond from Chubb.”

    The environmental nonprofit group Rainforest Action Network (RAN) noted on its website that Chubb does business around the world, including with several major American adversaries. The group pointed out that Chubb is “insuring oil and gas extraction and transport in Russia, fueling Russia’s war on Ukraine.”

    “In fact, Chubb called Russian oil and gas ‘one of the most promising activities’ of its Russian operations,'” RAN wrote. “The insurer was recently backing Nord Stream 2, a massive, controversial natural gas pipeline built by Gazprom, the world’s largest producer of gas and a majority Russian state-owned fossil fuel company (which also happens to be funded by JPMorgan Chase).”

  3. The GOP pivot on Biden seems to be toward saying he’s too angry and confrontational.

    They obviously don’t care that it doesn’t work with their spin that he was too old and tired, and they’re hoping that the press switches without skipping a beat.

    They’re also hoping that they can bothsides Trump’s behavior, and turn this into a reason for voters to stay away from Biden. They’re probably most desperate to shut down everything Biden says about issues, because they really don’t want more talk about abortion, freedom, and the economy.

    I don’t think it’s a good pivot, because it ends up reinforcing Biden, but the age spin got exposed as pretty thin stuff too.

    It’s what you do when you don’t have a better angle.

        He’s clearly a grumpy old man and it would be better to elect  malicious, spiteful old man [who has severe dementia and a family history of same, is facing 91 criminal indictments, and is an adjudicated rapist.]

        • I pretty strongly suspect why this was Plan B is because their polling shows too many people want someone pushing back on Trump.  The only time Haley got any traction with her own voters was when she finally dropped the “I’d make a great VP” act and started tentatively going after Trump.The effect is even bigger with Democrats. But it’s not clear what their Plan C would be.
