Weekend Vibes [DOT 11/11/23]

Hey gang! Hope everyone had a great week.

Sorry but I totally did the “fall asleep on my laptop thing” and now it’s 2AM and no DOT written up.

You’ll have to ‘talk amongst yourselves’…Whatcha got, Deadsplinters?!?

  1. …so…I think the new republic ran a thing about this a couple of days ago but I haven’t really seen it mentioned in any of the usual suspects news-orgs-wise

    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/11/10/2204905/-Mike-Johnson-goes-to-Paris-to-help-French-neo-fascists

…there’s what…a week until the continuing resolution stops continuing & we’re into shutdown territory again…& they’ve pulled several spending bills in the last couple of weeks because they couldn’t get them into a shape they could get voted through to senate

…he’s a walking evangelist of a movement that has more in common with mammon than jehovah…& yet they can’t get their shit together on spending & the business side of government…that feels like a pretty massive problem for a party who just got burned at the ballot box badly enough that their ohio branch is trying to remove the judiciary from having jurisdiction in order to not abide by the abortion ballot measure…on one reading of which I gather they claimed in official paperwork that “foreign billionaires” contributed to the campaign funding & that makes it fine to claim it doesn’t count

…honestly…this whole year is gonna be messy AF…but the next week or two is shaping up to be a hell of a preview?

    • I still believe it has been always about the money. The international billionaire class has been taking in the shorts on the stock market and in other financial vehicles that depend on either low inflation or low interest rates. Also they don’t like the fact their taxes went up a tiny bit under Joe while they went down big time under Treason Season (even though they don’t pay shit) and the fact that IRS is being funded big time to go after many of them.

The MSM is just doing the bidding of their masters. In the process though they are showing us who they are. Comforting the comfortable and Afflicting the Afflicted.

At least in my “conspriacy” tinted eyes, this is why the centrist Dems are sqwaking about Joe being too old, in order to allow their masters/benefactors/”buddies” from losing (or not gaining at the rate they are used to) some of their regular income via taxes.

And why they want the GOPers to shut the fuck up about borshun.

    • It’s a running issue among a lot of political reporters – there’s a kneejerk attempt to lean against Democrats. I think there are a mix of reasons – some are dummies looking to appear smart, others are victims of shrunken source networks, some are biased, some are responding to cues from higher up, some are just following long established cues like Murc’s Law.

Baker’s high enough in the food chain and has been doing this for so long, though, that he really has no excuses in the way you might cut some slack to a third string reporter for a minor outlet. He could look harder for a wider net of better sources who could give him a better sense of what’s happening. He just doesn’t want to.

  2. Las Vegas unions got their third deal in three days with major employers:

    https://edition.cnn.com/2023/11/10/business/casino-strike-labor-deal-las-vegas/index.html

It’s interesting to me how this follows the recent UAW deals and the actors guild settlements, as well as the railroad union settlement, screenwriters deal and Caterpillar Tractor union contract earlier this year.

Democrats have bet big on pro-union stands, and like on abortion the GOP is trying their best to whitewash their past and present dogmatic opposition.
