    • …there’s a parks & rec episode where ron gets nominated for a woman’s award & agrees to accept it just to wind leslie up…but the whole point is it wouldn’t be funny if he really went through with it & didn’t use the opportunity to give leslie the recognition

…how have none of the people who pick those names watched parks & rec

…we’re gonna need to start more pop culture tests for candidates…I mean…I’d have voted for obama anyway…but when he said omar was his favorite character on the wire…& then got briefly embarrassed & tried to equivocate lest it be seen as condoning murdering drug dealers for money or something…that felt like a moment of honesty that’s rare in those sorts of Q&A affairs?

      • I vaguely remember reading an article about egotistical narcissists pathologically lacking a sense of humor. They probably did watch Parks & Rec but through a lense of missing all the satire.

  1. Rancher Mephesto raised his sheep with 4 asses for wimpy limp dick canned trophy hunters, it seems.

I grew up around a lot of hunters (hard not to in rural Ontario) and most of them did it because of habit or they really liked eating moose meat or venison.

Never understood the thrill of trophy hunters especially canned trophy hunters like that dickhead Minnesota Dentist who killed Cecil the Lion at least a decade ago or Dick “dick” Cheney who bagged a GOPer lawyer’s face on a canned dove hunt or even the feckless Trump boys and their numerous “kills.”

    • I have always loved that Dick Cheney story. A friend/supporter invites him on a shoot, they’re in the blind together, and the friend takes a load of buckshot to the face. Dick was probably on his fourth or fifth heart transplant at the time. I can’t confirm this but I’m certain Dick Cheney growled at him.

    • I grew up around bow hunters so trophy hunting definitely didn’t compute for me. For that matter I still have a little trouble with gun hunting for meat. You want to hunt and pit yourself against nature? That’s fine I have no problem with that. But don’t stack the deck so high in your favor that it’s pointless.

That being said, subsistence hunting is a totally different deal. If you’ve got to hunt to eat then by all means bring your gun. I knew a few of them in AK and it’s tough enough to survive in the more remote areas. No need for them to deliberately make things harder on themselves. But they are literally the only ones who get a pass.

  2. Here’s something from The Washington Post:

โ€œWe donโ€™t like uncertainty,โ€ said Wang Yiwei, vice president of the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in a New Era at Renmin University.

And people (like me) scoff at Harvard offering a Taylor Swift course.

  3. I was late to find out that Bob Moore, founder of Bob’s Red Mill baking products, died last month.

    https://www.oregonlive.com/food/2024/02/founder-of-bobs-red-mill-bob-moore-dies-at-94.html

The company has a great line of whole grain flours and other baking supplies, which are high quality and generally reasonable prices. I have a couple of bags of their products in my freezer right now.

What’s more, Moore turned down opportunities to sell the company to giant food corporations and when he was 81 handed over ownership to the employees, deciding he didn’t need the extra money. He finally retired at 87.

      • The nutty thing is that a ton of Republicans were running for their lives too on 1/6 but they seem to have forgotten what Pence remembered.

The reality is that bowing down won’t make the threats stop, and they’ll just keep coming back. The rest of these dolts are too dumb to understand that, though.

    • The last time Trump’s mental state came up, there was a flood of pushback like this citing the “Goldwater Rule” that it was inappropriate for mental health experts to pass judgment without direct examination.

      https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/16/health/analyzing-donald-trump-psychology.html

Fast forward to today and I saw by recent count there were over forty separate times the NY Times alone had cited Robert Hur’s judgment that Biden was mentally impared, with the obvious irony that Hur isn’t even remotely qualified to judge.

But Trump has gotten by for years being judged by the easiest standards possible.

      • …that line was always suspect as anything…the fine print was basically that a) unqualified diagnosis is largely meaningless & often attached to debunked theories in the phrenology mold…& b) no qualified person would offer a public diagnosis of an individual they hadn’t personally assessed first-hand…& if they had it would be confidential anyway

…but some of those people get dispensation in legal proceedings to be expert witnesses & it’s not clear you couldn’t do the same thing…or just talk about conditions that present in similar ways

…it’s a fairly unsurprising bit of hypocrisy, I suppose…even hur’s report… particularly in the context of the long transcripts that were held back to begin with…make it pretty clear that prolonged exposure to joe biden makes a person stop filing him under “doddery old dude” the way small doses of him speaking & his body language basically do lend themselves to…because he’s an old man…so that’s what he sounds like

…but it’s what they’ve got…provided they don’t want to touch the other third rail & take shots at him for acting like the rest of us & looking at gaza in horror while saying “if only there was something someone could do to stop this”

…&…apparently they’d rather stick to “old means mentally compromised”…while trying to ignore the part where they say it only applies to the one guy…that they said the same shit about last time…& not the other guy…who is the age joe was last time

…if your angle isn’t “they’re both too old for this shit WTF, america…you had other people available, you know?”…then it’s a near certainty your agenda is showing
