Weekend Vibes [DOT 2/12/23]

Yesterday I spent 6 hours in the car driving home from home. From my original home to my current home! Today I will be putting things away and holding the couch down. Do you guys have any good weekend plans?

I was surprised by this, only because I thought she was already dead.

This is worth the click. I’m a little afraid of her and also a little in love with her

Have an awesome day!

  1. I’m still kind of shocked that the Republicans even held the expulsion resolution much less passed it. First because they basically never hold one of their own to account over anything. Second because their majority is already razor thin and it’s going to take some time to replace him with another idiot.

    • It’s extreme self-interest. Abortion is seriously affecting any Republican’s re-election chances, and the spiraling scandals are just exacerbating the problem. Some of them decided that they needed to look like they could police themselves, so it was time for Santos to serve as an example.

They’ll be running on it, particularly in New York. “See? I’ve got scruples. I voted against that crook Santos.”

The real interesting situation will be in the next 80 days when the special election is held to replace Santos. Republicans have not fared terribly well in special elections this year.

      • It was reported that at least one member of the Ethics Committee threatened to resign if Speaker Johnson blocked a vote. Another GOP rep was reported fuming that Johnson was maneuvering to save Santos because he said Santos had stolen from him and his mother.

That Washington Post article has a poor framing of events as a bipartisan effort that just says about the GOP leadership closing their ranks around Santos “some GOP leaders voiced concerns about setting a precedent by expelling a lawmaker who had not been convicted of a crime.”

The NY Times went with a much blunter headline and subhed: How Republicans Split Over Whether to Expel George Santos / While the vote to expel Mr. Santos was a bipartisan rebuke, Republican leaders and far-right members voted to save him.

        • …as it goes one of the two (D) nay votes put out a statement that offered that same justification on the grounds that due process required steps that were skipped

…& I’d imagine their concern about the precedent set had more to do with the reprisal remix…though if it takes a 2/3 majority presumably that’s a somewhat hollow threat to unconvicted dems the GOP would like to reject…it could waste a lot of time that could be put towards actually doing the job?

          • My money is on those two reps being in swing districts and are too chickenshit to vote their conscience.

            • …I was curious but I could only find the statement from the guy & at this point I’d need to look up the other one’s name again but I figured something of the sort, too

…a cheap way to claim a principles stand that didn’t effect the outcome & burnishes an independent posture…& for added fun banks a possible I think old you so if the GOP try to run hog wild with the bullshit version down the line

…did rather like the thing the other day where the guy in the senate let lindsay graham & co bitch & whine about being denied their third round of racking up soundbites under the auspices of debating a nomination before pointing out it was following the precedent they set their very own selves

…feels like there ought to be a lot more of that kind of shit than the dems seem inclined to muster?

  2. 1) Wow, I’m afraid of her too.

    2) The food’s got more cheese than I want, but I don’t mind tater tots.

    • I am afraid to say that if I were to give cooking tutorials on TikTok I wouldn’t act much differently and I’ll tell you why.

In the Before-Time, pre-Covid, when we actually used to host dinner parties, BH had a friend who always wanted to come early to “help out.” What he really wanted to do was to glue himself to my side while I was trying to make dinner for 6 or 8 or 12. “Why would you do this?/Wouldn’t it be easier if you…/So that’s 400 degrees but only 375 on your oven?”

I might have snapped at him more than once. Mea culpa.

  3. We’ve talked about home schooling before and how it can be used to cover abuse. WaPo did an in-depth article on one such instance. Warning: This is difficult to read.

    • I read that article this morning and agreed it was very hard to get through.

I felt so bad for the sister who said she called CPS 3 times, too, even though there’s no record. You know she also blames herself for what happened to that little boy.

  4. I know Sandra Day O’Connor’s husband was diagnosed with Alzheimers near the end of his life and later had an “affair” with another patient at the care facility.  This factoid is not meant as a gossipy thing, but to highlight a rather unfortunate side effect of dementia/Alzheimers.

Because of this, I’m mentally preparing for that possibility with my parents too.

  5. Considering what happened after Gore V Bush, Sandra’s partisan decision altered the US in ways no one ever expected.

Especially considering that RW nutjobs like Leonard Leo secretly had their claws in Va Fungulo Scalia and Uncle Pubes…

    • Yeah, she had publicly stated how upset she was at ScAlito’s appointment and how they were dismantling her “moderate” legacy.  Well, you know, Sandra, if you had actually acted like an impartial judge, rather than a partisan Republican when the rubber meets the road, Dubya wouldn’t have been in office to appoint that shitbag.  But, then of course, Gore wouldn’t have appointed another Republican to your seat, which you were clearly thinking about vacating soon, so screw you.

      • It was such a terrible piece of legal reasoning too. She had every intellectual justification to tell the other Republicans to cool their jets for a few days and come up with a better option. There was no good reason to just sign on the dotted line the paper that was dropped in front of her.

    • I guess political discourse in Red States would have been better if they founded Moms for Threeways (available only on Only Fans!)

But I never got into GOPer kink shame/hate as a sexual fetish.

      Also… wow.

  6. So, we cancelled our trip.  She woke up with a 102 fever, and our relatives are older so we didn’t want to risk it.

On a side note, did I miss cousin matties big return?

  7. I, too, love the cooking lady. She has zero time and zero bucks to give. Make the damn casserole and move on . . . I envision her as a female Butcherbakertoiletrymaker.
