        What I find really interesting is that this six year (and possibly eight year) trend of content stasis took place in an ongoing downward spiral of the overall demographics that drive ratings and engagement. You can see the economic headwinds in Facebook’s decision to stop emphasizing news, in the continuing major declines in outlets like the Washington Post and CNN, and the collapse of both conservative and liberal news sites like The Messenger and Buzzfeed News.

        The people in charge may well keep building sailboats even as steam ships and railroads change the world around them, of course.
