Apparently he doesn’t like the African and Asian influx. Presumably the Asians are coming from the former Dutch colony of Indonesia. (Why isn’t he concerned about unfettered immigration from former and current Dutch holdings in the Caribbean? Is it because there is none because those islands are so wealthy and the weather is so nice?) In any event, I would go visit Geert and bring some Indonesian takeaway that we could share in the residence. Many foods can be improved by the deft application of a spicy peanut sauce. I will show him this by example. Then maybe he’d leave the poor Indonesians alone.
I wonder if he speaks English? I bet he does but he wouldn’t, in a misguided “Netherlands First!” kind of way. That would be alright. As long as he could write his comments down I’d be able to understand them. Then maybe I would have one of those watches that will translate for you, but I’m not sure Dutch is an option.

Oh, I would never have voted for him. But weren’t there something like 40 parties running in the last Dutch national election? Believe me, I have everything to fear from the far right, the Rassemblement National in France, the Alternative für Deutschland in Germany. The list goes on and on. But maybe if I could have a word or 10,000 I might be able to change hearts and minds. Probably not. I’ve been working on Better Half for going on 40 years and aside from restaurant choices he refuses to be persuaded.

I don’t know about you, but I would love to have just one apartment the size of a football field. As for Voluntary Human Extinction, has this loon never read P D James’s sci-fi novel or seen the movie “The Children of Men”? Or “Logan’s Run”? Or “War of the Worlds”?

Les Knight might want to off himself for the good of the planet (notice that he hasn’t yet) but for the vast majority of us, every birth is a cause of celebration, the growth and maturation of the children into adults is a source of endless fascination, and when the time comes we grieve deeply for our loss. We don’t think about football fields’ worth of wildlife habitat.
Although come to think of it, that engineer brother of mine who died a couple of years ago was an incredibly skilled woodworker. He and his friends did it as a hobby. He made all kinds of wooden furniture for himself and various siblings and his children. Huge pieces, like china cabinets and armoires and freestanding structures, like tasteful “blends into the landscape” sheds where you drag your trash barrels after they’ve been emptied by the municipal sanitation force. He might have wiped out a football field or six’s worth of wildlife habitat.
Trump keeps falling asleep in the middle of the day at his trial, and somehow the reaction of the political press is just a shrug. That Washington Post article doesn’t mention it, and when the Post does cover it, they run articles like this:
