Hope everyone had a great week! I’m sooooo ready to go home. Like so, so ready.
What’s the over/under on them ever solving this?

How an Assassin Escaped One of the Most Surveilled Cities in the World

I’m sure there’s other stuff going on, but it’s late and I’ve got a long drive tomorrow.

Have a great day!
Rosanne used to be awesome.
I know some have posited that this dude was a genius, but didn’t he allow his face to be surveilled, left a cup with prints, a backpack, etc?
I am surprised he hasn’t been caught yet.
I suspect that a lot of the clues have been denied or considered out of coverage AND more than a few NYPD/witnesses might be UHC “satisfied” customers.
Also like to add that while that any person’s death should be seen as a terribly loss and that police are professionals mostly, but it’s very hard to feel anything for someone who profited off the misery and death of others. It’s how I’d feel about Trump, the NRA, Wall/Bay St Banksters, the mafia, Raytheon, etc.
I’m sure there are people that loved them, but this should be a lesson for all those pious moral scolds (who were like my late mom who didn’t like fighting at all which is understandable, but she didn’t get what it meant not to fight back against bullies and there’s always going to be a price when you decide to fight back) and psychos in the C suites, you get what give and that Karma might not be “real”, but it can feel real.
“Genius” is probably wildly overstated. He is however operating with a very defined plan and he’s very clearly not stupid. I suspect the glimpses of his face were because he didn’t realize how many cameras there are in New York. So far, that’s his only clear mistake.
Other clues, like the phone and fingerprint on the water bottle? Not leaving fingerprints or a phone are pretty obvious to anybody who’s ever watched TV. I suspect those may be red herrings. A single fingerprint just seems weird. And fingerprints only work if you’re in the system already, and if he’s not a criminal or has never applied for a government job, he may not have any prints on file. Probably he broke the phone, which is a burner, beyond recovery. Even if not, a burner phone paid with cash won’t tell the cops much more than where he went in NYC, which they’re already working on. Or maybe he disposed of the SIM card elsewhere.
He’s out of New York and paying with cash and surveillance cameras are VERY limited in other places. A couple of bus changes, particularly if he separates them by traveling another way (even on foot — seems to be in pretty good shape) are going to really throw the cops off.
As I posted the other day, almost half the murders in the US go unsolved. Over 60% of violent crimes go unsolved. A lot of police work relies on luck and stupid criminals who do the same thing over and over. They also rely heavily on eyewitnesses (and as Manchu noted, those may be in short supply on this case). (Source: https://www.npr.org/2023/04/29/1172775448/people-murder-unsolved-killings-record-high and I used to deal with a LOT of cops in a previous job).
There aren’t any Will Trents or Adrian Monks out in the real world using magical deductive abilities to catch crooks.
I’m not prepared to categorically state he’s going to get away with it, but I have a funny feeling he just might. So to answer Meg’s question in her DOT, I’d give him a 65% chance of disappearing completely.
fingerprints are a mandatory part of having an id card here
not having an id card is illegal (as is being uninsured btw)
makes crimesing a little harder to get away with…. but if i posted any of the above on oppo a good chunk of oppo would go nuclear about how much of a police state europe is
kinda like when i mentioned supermarket self checkout has random bag checks
big invasion of privacy apparently…
i dunno man…dont want to risk a bag check….get in line at the regular checkout?
seems simples
I had my fingerprints taken when I enrolled in the TSA precheck program.
Honestly, as many people end up murdered here in the good ol’ US of A, they should take fingerprints of us all just to have on file to assist with identification of bodies.
Sherlock Holmes would have his ass, but not let anyone know.
a block of houses blew up in overhereistan
it looks pretty sus…
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clykk717n1ko
no proper details yet….but well…things have been pretty splodey over here
https://www.dutchnews.nl/2024/11/attacks-using-firework-bombs-will-far-exceed-1000-this-year/
normally those just take out some windows or a porch tho….but 2 splosions one little and one big makes me wonder….if somebody maybe got a little more bang than planned by causing a gas leak or some shit…
I always assume it’s a meth lab that blew a house up.
But I also live in a state with horrible amounts of meth addiction and production.
its a possibility here too….we kind of are a major hub for all the drugs getting into europe
mostly…they like to operate more out in the sticks tho
its also possible the car seent speeding away from the scene had nothing to do with anything
in which case the small explosions followed by a really big one might just have been someones personal stash of illegal unsafely stored fireworks going off…
people seem to forget fireworks are powerful explosives coz they make pretty colours
not me tho…i remember them flattening a whole city block over here once
that was a fireworks factory tho…. took out every window in the hospital my dad was staying in at the time
I wouldn’t be sad if the murder isn’t solved. Just sayin.
Judging by the entire rest of the Internet, you’re not alone. This guy seemed to oversee that AI “tool” that UHC deployed, that denied 90% of claims. Every person I know that works in AI says that’s impossible unless it’s designed that way. Literally a feature not a bug.
There aren’t a lot of people lining up to help the police on this one.
