I saw that and I like the attitude, at first blush. Republicans all the way up to Trump ignore any law or court ruling that they want to, without the slightest repercussion.
The scary thing is that the court system, tattered as it is, is pretty much the last bastion of our democracy. If Democrats say fuck it, and Republicans already have, then how much longer until we’ve got straight-up civil war? I don’t know.
Maybe that’s ultimately the only way out of this. Right now, they’re down to Republican politicians and MAGA faithful, who, while insane, are a pretty small sliver of the population. Republicans have about 40 million registered voters, out of 330 million people — factor in crazification factor of 30% — I’m rounding up — and you’re looking at 12 million hard-core MAGA? Many of which are old? Registered independents are a bit of a wild card but most polling says some may lean Republican so that’s why I rounded up the crazification factor.
If it actually comes down to a fight, they lose. If we actually had Democratic leadership who could run a bluff, we will no longer acknowledge the decrees of an illegitimate government, I think we could back them down. We have the stronger hand. But we don’t actually have any fucking leaders who will go scorched-earth. So we keep losing to a small sliver of the overall population.

…& with some guesswork about the overlap between those entries in the variable listings & the ones pandemic-tagged as “essential” workers on account of what breaks when nobody shows up for their shifts
…not being funny…but…decent chance enough people would agree that if you’d help them out where they’re hurting & look out for them & theirs & otherwise mostly let them get on with doing the best they can to make something out of the circumstances they find themselves in right now…&…you can show your work & take feedback when there’s some disagreement about what “work” looks like from relevant perspectives…they’d keep some pretty substantive faith with you if you told them you were aiming for a place even if you were straight with them about not being able to get there
…FFS…if it didn’t work that way we wouldn’t think that one was *the* “I have a dream…” speech…the shit they’re trying to overnight to the never-happened took…I dunno…go talk to the suffragettes…or…the slaves in the cradle of democracy where we invented math with someone else’s numerals

I don’t know anyone who loves football/soccer enough to spend $$$/ticket plus travel to see a World Cup game, and I know some crazy fans. Given that some games are in Kansas City and that’s only a 4 hr drive? Not a good sign for FIFA.
Gotta keep some seats affordable to fill the stands, especially for the early round games and given how much international tourism has plummeted with this assclown regime in charge.
At any other time in my life, we would have tried VERY hard to get World Cup tickets. We looked at the whole environment here and went, “Nope.” Sucks. I doubt the US will host another Cup in my lifetime. Oh well.
