  1. Shameless plug, here is a song a Canadian friend and I made.

If this isn’t allowed, I won’t do it ever again, just thought I’d share.

  2. Anyone else digging the #WildeStyles drama? Is it a PR move? Have they split? Did you know who Harry Styles was before he started dating Olivia Wilde? …as much as I love tabloid gossip, I’m old and had never heard of him.

  3. I was happy to be born on the day Star Trek premiered.  Now my birthday is forever linked with Queen Liz.

My mom is (strangely) broken up about this being that she is a royal watcher (made dad get up to watch William’s wedding and made us get up to watch Chuck and Di’s wedding) being that she is a Korean woman with no British blood whatsoever (the same argument you can make about the Royals.)

However, that being said Liz was probably the best of her family as opposed to the rest of them. She toughed out some of the darkest periods of British history with the typical stiff upper lip while her kids outside of Prince Edward (and Princess Anne?) wandered into some pretty dark shit, I’m looking at you Randy Andy, Buddy of Jeffery Epstein.

The relevancy of the Royals is basically up to Charles and gang IMO.

    • I feel … odd about it, myself. I’m not a royal watcher or terribly interested in them, but Elizabeth has been queen for as long as most people have been alive, me included. It’s like this constant presence is now just … gone. And yeah, she seemed to be a pretty good person, as royals go.

      • …on a scale from fervent anti-monarchist to rabid daily-mail-style acolyte I guess I’ve always been somewhere around the mid-line…& feeling odd about it sounds about right to me?

…it might be hard to justify in the abstract but there are & have been some fairly significant advantages to britain stemming from having a royal family…so they aren’t straightforwardly a bad thing even if they have an extraordinary amount of baggage…& yet…it’s hard to overstate the degree to which she is effectively synonymous with the institution for at least several generations of people & I think it’s going to be pretty strange for a lot of people to get used to the idea that it’s not her at the helm any more

…so…I get why irish twitter might have erupted much the way people did when maggie died…but she was dignified lady perhaps before anything so it seems fitting that she be accorded a bit of that on her way out

…mind you…I could do without the saturation coverage…it’s…bizarre…& if you get into it I’m not sure it says anything terribly flattering about the british?

        • The New York Post (America’s finest newspaper) has 11 articles today, plus a live updates page, which keeps a running tab of little news pieces as the info becomes available.

          • The Murdoch press attitude is typically creepy. They have abused the privacy of the royals and done stuff like hack phones and steal medical info, but then flipped and helped cover up for them in exchange for morsels of gossip.

They go on nutty crusades against some members for trivia, but then go hyper-righteous against people who bring up legitimate issues about the institution.

Murdoch and the royals is a prime example of how much of what his outlets do is purely about control, and depends to a large extent on conning people into never looking beyond what they are saying in the present instant.

            • …far be it from me to say anything nice about the murdochs or their media holdings…but the saturation coverage I meant seems to have run the gamut well beyond their corner

              • Oh I just used the Post as an example. The NY Daily News is just as bad but it’s behind a paywall and is no way worth it. My first instinct of course was to race to the Daily Mail and I was not disappointed.

Who knew there was stuff about QEII still to be learned. She never said anything but from various memoirs and stories that circulated it is commonly accepted that one of her favorite Presidents was Eisenhower and they used to chat ex tempore. The Palace switchboard would know that. Another fave was Ronald Reagan because they’d go out riding and not return until long after they were scheduled to. Her favorite PM was Churchill, she actually admitted this, because he was “such fun” and really took a shine to Wilson. This is known because their weekly audiences would typically go on for two hours and the staff could hear them yukking it up. Wilson would leave these meetings wiping his eyes from laughing so much, apparently.

  4. This article from five years ago about the behind the scenes planning for QE2’s death (or as a person involved referred to more obscurely  “some inevitable occasion, the timing of which, however, is quite uncertain”) is fascinating. The attention to detail is incredible, as well as the urge to control despite the knowledge that nothing will stop a percentage of people from refusing to get on board with it all.

    • …a lot of it comes down to “protocol”…which can seem a bit daft or entirely insane…but is taken seriously enough by some people that getting the order wrong for who gets informed first & such or somehow overlooking some obscure formality would be an actual disaster of one sort or another

…it’s going to go on for at least a couple of weeks, too

      • Personally, I’m waiting for the Vigil of the Princes.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigil_of_the_Princes

At last Prince Andrew might be let off royal grounds. If you have a subpoena to serve him with, now’s your chance. Also, Harry, will he or won’t he?

Speaking of Prince Andrew, he might as well throw himself in a coffin too, he’s done. I predict the money’s going to be cut off, he’ll be kicked out of the grace-and-favor house, he might be stripped of his title, his protection taken away, anything could happen if Charles goes through with his “slimmed-down monarchy” plans. I assume QEII provided for him in her will, which will take some of the sting out of it.

  5. im an anti royalist…..but lizzy up and dying on me has ripped a pillar out of me life

    water is wet

    gravitiy makes  you fall down

    and lizzy is the queen

  6. I fucking hate any time a member of that royal family dies or gets married or has kids. I care about as much as I do if Sandra Johnson’s family members die or have kids and guess what, fuckers?

I DON’T KNOW A FUCKING SANDRA JOHNSON SO SHE AND HER FAMILY CAN FUCK OFF AS WELL!

Get off of my fucking tv!
