&…we’re back? [DOT 26/12/19]

So…much as I hope everyone’s having a lovely christmas break…& I do…most of us have seen The Godfather movies at some point…& “the day of our savior’s birth” seems like it might (for, say, folks with an impeachment-shaped Sword of Damocles hanging over their heads…) have a thing or two in common with “the day of my daughter’s wedding”…

then again, don dotard is more by way of begging favors than granting them…

…but, you know – the world turns & shit happens:

apparently wordpress has a fondness for the NYT that it doesn’t have for WaPo…

…but don’t worry – there’s nothing to see here

…besides, there are christmas things to be doing

…because that’s what the holidays are about for some people, apparently

…no wonder some of you are wondering why we even bother

…meanwhile, elsewhere

make merry, people…& rest up while ye may…’cause come the new year the crazy’s coming back with an actual vengeance…& for my money it deserves to be ours for a goddamned change…

…& speaking of miracles & christmas & folks I hope are resting up…kinja’s very own Rooo sez noted this on one of the weekend dance party threads & it looks like it maybe counts as a reason or two to be cheerful?

  1. …ok – so now this really does look like an exercise in just talking to your damn self

russia ‘successfully tests’ its unplugged internet –

…& surely there is no connection – & you’d be a fool & a communist to make one (RIP Bill…) – between having the internet connected & fucking with it & NOT having the internet connected & NOT fucking with it
here’s everything the Mueller Report says about how russian trolls used social media (according to buzzfeednews – which unless I’m mistaken is where the guy with the tweet about the christmas FOIA delivery works…)

…so I’d say they seem like they’ve been paying a fair bit of attention to this stuff over there?

    • One of the many stupid things Facebook is doing is the relentless crushing of diversity in the online publishing and political world. By trying to steer all traffic to only the sites favored by Zuckerberg and Thiel, they are only making the web more vulnerable to authoritarian leaders.

It’s vastly easier for China and Russia and the GOP to dictate terms to Facebook when the web is only a stump of what it used to be, Thiel has conned Zuck into thinking he can be an equal player to Xi, Modi, Putin and McConnell if he just plays ball. Zuck is going to find those guys will eat his lunch, and in the process of cozying up to the dictators he has wiped out a bunch of natural allies.

Facebook is going to find out, just like the NBA, that it will be paying an ugly price down the road for “partnerships” with these people to get into their networks. Zuck thinks he’s Kissinger reaching out to Mao, but he ought to be learning about Jimmy Hoffa and Russell Buffalino.

  2. Wait who says ‘snowflakes’ are ‘afraid’ to see their MAGA relatives? Per Rip’s WAPO article above, ““We’ve all seen the news articles about liberal snowflakes being afraid to see their MAGA relatives at Christmas or holiday gatherings, so the Trump campaign wants people to be ready,” campaign spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement. “We’re not helping snowflakes avoid arguments — we’re helping Trump supporters win them!”
I’m not afraid…I’d just rather not spend my time with them.

    • …you know how they get with the lies by omission thing

…they mean “afraid [they’ll have to yet again embarrass] MAGA relatives [with inconvenient things like truth, justice & your basic common-or-garden fact-based reality] & somehow still be th one everyone turns to & says “now look what you’ve done – why’d you have to spoil christmas” because MAGA is apparently a lot about acting like an entitled rich white old dude even when you happen to be none of those things & thus actively sabotaging your own best interests in order to pull off the bit…

    • Ugh, this! My sister-in-law is a diehard Trumpist. (Interestingly, at least 2 of her children aren’t, which I learned this Christmas. Neither is her brother.) She has all of the confrontational narcissism that must come with the Donny Dotard starter kit and none of the sense. On multiple occasions, she tried picking political fights with people. She is the kind of person who would insist up is down because she said so. Not real keen on the facts. You can’t argue with crazy and you can’t argue with stupid. I just walked away. Which probably drove her up a wall. Oh wel.
