It’s not like there’s a magic number “lose 30 lbs/14 kg and the diabeetus just goes away.”
I’m sure my now deceased type 1 diabetic aunt would have totally gone off insulin if she lost weight. Does having her legs amputated count as weight loss? What about when she had that kidney transplant?
Insulin is around $300/vial without insurance. Even with insurance it can be expensive as fuck until the person meets their deductible. And many insurance plans have deductibles of $6k/yr
I’ve got several friends with diabetes and insurance who are out over $200/month for insulin. One was paying close to $500/month for his insulin.
Anyways, I hope Matt Gaetz gets to have some conversations with the 13% of Florida people who are diabetic. I hope they bring some alligators, too.

People who live near the Canada and Mexico borders go there to buy the same insulin waaaaaay cheaper at regular cost (since their insurance won’t apply).
It’s a fucking racket to make millions for the pharmaceutical companies.

I don’t understand how anyone can vote for a party that has so much disdain for them, a party that goes out of it’s way to inflict as much damage as possible – emotionally, financially, and  physically on its supporters.

Pharmas have cut back on loss leaders etc to make a profit and then make agreements to not undercut other pharmas who do.
That is why the cost of certain meds jumped up significantly. No one is innocent for it.

Also, if you want to help diabetics get insulin, look for grassroots orgs as opposed to the big orgs like JDRF. The little orgs are doing great work.
Hopefully that Shark Tank guy can make insulin affordable for Americans with his new Pharma company. I forget his name.
