What did you do today? [NOT 30/1/21]

Hi friends! How’s your day going?

It has been raining since before I woke up, so it was a dreary, stay inside day. That being said, 5 or 6 degrees colder and we’d have a ton of snow so yay rain!!!

I had grandiose plans to buy some birdseed and suet today, but that can wait until tomorrow. I also caught up with a dear friend who I hadn’t been able to talk to since around Christmas.

I excavated the corner of my bedroom which is the “oh just throw that stuff there and deal with it later.” I found some stuff I’d been looking for (including a missing bra! that was awesome to find!). But when I say excavated, friends, the bottom of the pile had swimsuits I needed to put away last Summer.

Then I did some laundry and I am now making a casserole for dinner. Mmmm, dinner.

  1. That’s such a productive day! Ever since the move I’ve been doing way better not having piles of messes to “deal with later” (so far…), but normally I am very familiar with the piles that go down to several seasons back.

What kind of casserole this time?

    • We had a pretty good day. We set up a new big boy bed for Lil, with the leopard print sheets he picked out, and he successfully napped in it, after some additional time to settle down. We’ll see how tonight goes. He was pretty excited at the new autonomy of being able to get in and out of bed himself. Could make for an interesting excursion in the middle of the night haha.

    • You roast spaghetti squash and then add whatever you want to the shreds along with half a cup of ricotta, 1 cup shredded parm, and 4 eggs. Dump in a 9×13 pan and cover with another half cup of shredded parm and bake for 45 mins at 375. Comes out almost quiche-like thanks to the eggs.

So I’ve made it vegetarian, I’ve made it with crumbled Italian sausage, tonight I’m making it with Italian sausages I chopped and sauteed first with onion and red bell pepper.

Not low fat, but thanks to spaghetti squash having very few calories, does turn out to be very filling and not high calorie.

  2. In weather-related news, turns out a new section of my basement leaks after 12+ hours of rain.

And the sump pump still works, it’s just that the ground is so saturated and it’s not part of the trench.

Unfinished side, so that’s good. Right next to the water heater and not far from the furnace, so not good.

  3. I did a tiny, inconsequential bit of straightening up (I have all the piles as well), got the laundry done except the blanket Lal burped on yesterday, and skimmed the job board, applying for a part time something that might be nice to hold me up for a few months so I can quit my job with teh mighty maskless Yoyos and not be too afraid of being homeless soon. Then I watched Hunting the Wilderpeople, with Sam Neill and that cool kid from Deadpool 2, which was fun and sweet and twisted and you should totally watch it too.

  4. Went to work today, was only one there, it was pretty not-terrible.
Also did a full bike commute today – I figured with no one there, I could just be gross and sweaty.  Ended up not being all that sweaty either – the easy part of the commute is the couple of miles closest to work.  Gonna try it again tomorrow, but might take transit home, I think the forecast has some hellish headwinds that I probably won’t feel like fighting against.

  5. Let’s see…went to the grocery store (I go early in the morning before the place gets overrun), put today’s SBT post together, balanced the checkbooks, watched an episode of Fargo, finished the book I was reading, and baked some cookies from my grandmother’s recipe box (yes, there will be a FYCE post for it).  So, one of those fabled, low-key Saturdays.  Works just right for me.

  6. Today was beautiful and sunny and warm. I had my grocery pickup scheduled for mid afternoon so I made sure to leave the house after lunch to indulge in a nice long drive beforehand. It was awesome. Sigh. Wish the car was more reliable and I could do that more often without worrying.

  7. i woke up and discovered it was -8 outside…so i went for a little walkabout…took a picture of a tree and one of solid water…then decided i like being inside with a heater more…so thats where i am now
yesterday i had a moment of genius with dinner as i figured i can cook broccoli and rice in the same pan at the same time (hey it works with runner beans)
turns out that doesnt work…the rice didnt care but the broccoli……well…lets just say i now know how to make broccoli taste like cardboard
think ill just steam it like i normally do next time

  8. Late, as usual. Yesterday I paid my bills and sat on the couch. To entertain myself I started a sweater, a black turtleneck in merino sportweight, size US 3 needles. For the uninitiated that means is took about 3 hours to knit 3 inches of K1 P1 rib. I think that will keep my mind off the shitshow that is murrican politics! Then I tried the blood orange margarita, it was pretty but meh, I’d rather have a paloma, hmmmm, blood orange paloma?
