        the one person on earth who could actually lose to trump….

          …their whole setup in terms of the wider legislature & the associated fundraising has too much in common with the model a lot of those same people object to in the party across the aisle…& it’s sadly true that in the longer term they still have to work within a framework that includes essentially the same people pulling the same shit for the same reasons…so the idea of seriously upending the way all of that works by getting serious about cleaning up the finance side of things & clawing back the influence the lobbyists & money men have been enjoying for so long is one they know to be beyond them…so the human equivalent of a reset button is much more to their taste than anything potentially game-changing

          …they can argue it’s because they don’t want to scare off any votes that might be driven their way because the GOP has gone too far all they like but it’s always sounded like bullshit & this year more so than ever

    • …feeling like my head bursts into flames is a fairly regular occurence these days, to be fair…but I generally try to spare folks most of the stuff I wind up wanting to shout at the radio/tv/internet in favor of (for the most part) pointing at the things that made me feel that way & broadly assuming it might be obvious why

      …on the one hand the levels of righteous indignation that are naturally topped off by the lethally stupid shit he & his say & do on a daily basis is in a meaningful sense exhausting & at the bare minimum we can’t afford to drop from fatigue this side of seeing him actually out of office…& for my money not even then (although I imagine the palpable relief will be an object lesson in why we have the saying that “a change is as good as a rest”)…so I guess partly it’s an attempt to pace myself…sort of?

      …but on the other it feels like rising to the bait is missing the point…winding up the likes of us is just a happy accident for them where this killer-clown bullshit is concerned…& it works to their advantage to have us distracted enough by it to keep not noticing the shit they pull behind all the smoke & mirrors that likely has the more serious & damaging consequences in the longer term even if he loses come november

      …none of this stuff is talking to anyone who can see it for what it is…not even the ones that think they’re making the moves & running the show like that asshat bannon (who’s trying to get his end away again)…it’s just there to keep the cognitive dissonance bubble his support exists within from bursting under the overwhelming weight of the reality its adherents are so predisposed to deny in the first place…whether they’re the sort that buy in all the way down the Q anon rabbit hole or the sort that don’t care about any of this shit so long as they get their tax cut/contract/kickback/interests served for the sketchy “contributions” they’ve been paying in…or just the sort that find thinking painful & want to take it out on the world which I figure is probably the bulk of them

      …& it’s not like he has any actual loyalty to any of these fuckers…he’s always been fine with cratering a thing & walking off without settling up & calling it a success…there’s a part of me that wouldn’t even be surprised if he followed up an electoral loss in november with an executive order declaring that the federal government had filed for chapter 11 & tried to wire the public purse to the cayman islands

      …what really fucks with me if I get to thinking about it is that even now that some of the GOP is trying to do some window dressing here & there to offer a show of rehabilitating itself if the wheels look like coming off the extent to which they seem uninclined to unhitch their wagon from this horse until they’ve ridden it to death is objectively insane…& when you add in that horse & wagon alike look to be pelting hell for leather towards a sheer cliff it starts to look like even if they shoot the damn horse in the head the momentum is going to take them clear over the edge anyway

      …honestly I think a sincere case could be made for the GOP being a legitimized terrorist organisation these days & not really a party of government at all…they aren’t even pretending that the senate has a shot at being functional on their watch…they’ve fucked with the judiciary on a scale that ought in itself to be criminal & their president & his administration are, as you say, arsonists dressed as firefighters
