What’s Cooking This Week? [NOT 2/12/24]

Hi, friends!

What are we eating this week?

I’m making a nice batch of beans and rice with chopped veggies. I got some good cheddar to top it with, too.

  1. I love red beans & rice!  I’m making spinach & cheese stuffed chicken breasts tonight but that’s as far as I’ve got on meal planning.  I have a turkey carcass I should probably make stock out of but that takes motivation which I am lacking.  I have a big pack of chowfun noodles so may need to use those this week.

  2. My To Good to Go app had a “$21.00 sushi bag” from one of the local sushi places for $6.99, that was available until 7:30pm (it usually has an earlier pickup time), so I snagged it, thinking it was an easy supper for tonight & tomorrow…

Then I got there for the pickup at about 7:15, and they said, “Here! You get all the rest!”

Because apparently no one else picked up the other surprise bags that were offered.

So I got 2 shrimp tempura rolls (gave those away on the bus, because they’re okay, but I had so much other stuff i like better that those were the quickest & easiest to cull!😉)

And i also got 1 Chef’s special, 1 Dragon Roll, 1 Spicy California Roll, Another roll i can’trememberthe name of, and 2 Tuna Poke Bowls in the bags they gave me!😳🤯😃😁🥰

I’ll be eating sushi for the next few days’ suppers and lunch tomorrow, too!

The “Surprise Bag” i got was “expected” to have had a regular retail value of $21.00–so $6.99 is already a pretty great price!

Just for kicks & giggles, I added up the regular price of what I got…

It was $102.00 worth of sushi & poke bowls, y’all!😳🤯😃

obviously told the folks i gave the shimp tempura rolls about the app–gave them the name, and definitely explained how awesome it can be, if you know what you want & pay attention to the options😉

They seemed pretty excited about it, too😁

      • I’m honestly pretty surprised at how solid the deals have been–especially from this particular sushi place!

This is the one where the only thing “wrong” with the food, is that the rice is a little dry (think the sushi you buy on impulse at a place like Target, as opposed to stuff made in-house), and that the avocado is starting to brown from air exposure.

It *tastes* just fine, it’s just at the “sell by” date, so it doesn’t *look* as pretty anymore.

But the flavors on everything I’ve tried are great! In the batch I got on Friday(or was it Saturday?) there was another Tuna Poke bowl, and some mango spring rolls–the spring rolls were so tasty!

And that’s what I love about the “Surprise Bags”–because that’s something I *never* would think of ordering off the menu originally!

But now that I know how tasty they are?

        It’s *absolutely* something I’d order–especially on a hot summer day!🥰

The “adventurous eating” part is one of the things I like best about the app–because in a way, it’s almost like doing a chef’s menu or a tasting menu–you don’t get a choice, typically, other than “This one or that one?”

But you *know* there’s a good chance you’ll be happy with either option–so you just take a chance, jump in, and try it–at worst, you had a mediocre meal for less than ten bucks (maybe $11-12, after sales tax!😉)

And far more often than not, you discover really tasty stuff, and you get to try it at majorly discounted prices, to boot!😁🤗🥰
